This is SO valuable to me! Thank you- I grew up in southern CA with horses, now we are in the deep south. Completely different environment w different problems. Currently live in suburbia, but am playing w the idea of rural life//barn//horses, but I know it is a lifestyle, so I am researching like crazy so I know what we might be getting into, maybe in 5 years. Thanks so much for all the details.

where did you get your horse trailer?
@megbobsbarn3

Hi there! The trailer was manufactured by "Valley" brand trailers in Ohio. I purchased the trailer directly from them but they would only deliver to one of their trusted re-sellers "Blue Ridge Trailers" in Virginia - about 2 hours away from me.

for the thrive feeds do you feed supplements with it, for instance a joint supplement? minerals?
@megbobsbarn3
@megbobsbarn3 4 года назад
Great question. The directions on the bag say not to feed ANY additional supplements, however my gelding's blood work came back low in Vitamin E so I top-up his feed with some. Please note, he has underlying genetic issues which may contribute to his deficiency however.

Your barn is lovely!!! I live in north Texas and I desperately want to buy my own little plot of land and build a 5 stall poll barn and “tiny” house. I’m researching the cost now, and my gosh, barns are a whole lot more expensive then I would have thought. I won’t be detoured though, it’s about a 5-7 year plan anyway, so I’ve got time lol

Thank you for the review. We have purchased 4 of the premium stable comfort mats which are due to arrive here in Qatar today so may take a few days before getting them through customs. I’ve been a bit worried about this installation...The 4 stalls we will be installing them in have block paving as a base which should be fine, I believe? Is there an alternative way regarding the install over the threshold?
@megbobsbarn3
@megbobsbarn3 4 года назад
We were told that if we screw the rubber top sheet directly into concrete/cinder block/stone walls we would lose our 3 year warranty. That is why we chose to install them like we did over the threshold. I think having a block paver floor should be ok, it only gets tricky if you have to screw the top sheet into stone/concrete/etc. So far the mats have been working fine (despite a mouse chewing a hole in one of the top sheets) Good luck with your installation. The more people you have to help the better!

Those draft horses really must be tricky monsters, on the other hand, I have had draft horses for 57 years now and haven't experienced the need for half of the things mentioned here. Some of the suggestions, though, are useful.

What size are your stalls & the Dutch doors? And wash room?
@megbobsbarn3
@megbobsbarn3 4 года назад
The stalls are as close to a true 12x12ft interior measurement as possible. The Dutch doors are "oversized" meaning they are extra wide and extra tall. I'm not sure of their exact measurements though.
