the only big issue i have with the game is the way it marketed,even by independant youtubers,noone at any point made a video that made me understand what i WILL NEED to buy to be competetive,to get ascended gear the best most fun way is to go trough the living world episodes,so geting near every expansion and episode is very much necessary,so its not only not FREE its about 100$,i got hearth of thorns,path of fire,end of dragons,living world season 3,season 4 and entire icebrood saga,only then do i have acces to the maps that are the best gold farms in the game AND the fastest way to get ascended items,acessories being a JOKE to get in living world episodes,noone told me this,old players got living world for free so they may forget to mention it. And yes you can grind gold and convert it to gems to unlock this,so it is free to play,but its about 6 months of playing(repeating old content to grind gold) skipped with 100$,i immediatly just got to do all the content and was showered in loot,i got 7 ascended items in 1 month and i still have not done a single strike mission,raid, or earned the gear from WvW,its a bit misleading the way the game is marketed imo
I can understand the confusion. The 100 dollar purchase is a new thing that players begged for and Anet finally put together, and it has been a massive help for sure for people who are confused about how the content goes out and how to get those awesome rewards that help jumpstart your ability to play harder group content. It only came out when the steam release did, so up until then, you used gems to get the stories, if you didn't get it for free by playing when released, and you either had to spend real money one at a time per gem purchase per chapter, or convert gold you saved up over time, adn it just was not the easiest system. You can get ascended through crafting or fractals and such, but honestly, it really is super easy to get them through the living world seasons. I am glad you discovered this, and hopefully going forward, it will be easier for other players. The 100 dollar bundle, I have encouraged, and will continue to encourage anyone who doesn't have the content at all to get. It is thousands of hours of content and rewards. Super worth it.
Thanks for all the tips! I've picked the game up a few times in the past but never stuck with it much, but I'm trying to give it a shot again now with the steam release. It can get pretty confusing lol, but it's really helpful to hear about stuff like how often you should use waypoints and that free teleport to lion's arch.

Great beginner guide, thanks. I'd like to add, don't put points in the Mercenaries track. Mercenaries are not other players. They are unimportant NPC's on the maps. They're not worth wasting points on. Start working on the Warclaw as soon as possible. Everything is so much easier with a Warclaw.
Im back again. I chose a skyscale. how do i equip this mount? it says its locked for me. i level 80 boosted but havent really gone anywhere or done anything. do i need to unlock skyscales through a quest in order to actually use them?
So to get it, you have to do Path of Fire story line long enough to unlock Jackal, so you can use those mounts to get around to do the achievement collection for the Skyscale. To unlock the achievement collection, you have to do Living world season 4. At the end of the storyline, on the map Dragonfall, you will find at the very south a little asura from the story line with some sick skyscales. He will help you get started.
I really prefere the less flashy ones that just look like an other species over the ones with crazy effects. I am kinda tired of all the glowy flashy sparkly stuff that Anet sells now... But that's how it is now. Not gonna lie, I miss the GW1 times, or the beginings of GW2, when the designs were more sobre.
I have characters I make less flashy, but my main I make super sparkle flash. I feel like that way, if I am in a mood for it, I have it, but if I am in a mood for more realism, I have that too.
Deciding which free mount skin I want is going to be an extremely difficult decision, so many of them are cool. I think I might end up getting a Griffin skin though since it seems like the most useful of the mounts.
@@Kroeckinator I got the Skyscale long before the Griffon. The Griffon is an unavoidable 250 G. I think I spent around 66 G on the Skyscale. It takes a bit of time for the Skyscale, sure. But so does grinding together 250 G.

@@juggernautdriveSS There are no traditional quests. You complete hearts instead. Look for hearts on the map. Talk to the heart NPC, and do what the NPC says. 🙂 When you made your char you will have ended up near a starting area. Just do the hearts in the starting area first. As you level up you can move into higher level areas.
@@juggernautdriveSS Welcome to the game! This game is very big on exploration, both of the maps, and the content in general. To learn by doing and trying things, but story content comes out every 10 lvls at first, and you don't have to stick to any specific map. Just look at the world, pick somewhere that looks cool, and run around doing anything, for everything gives exp :) Traditional quests are replaced by hearts to fill for npcs who will love you if you help them, and story content that is optional and starts whenever you want.
