Kai: Never let your guard down. Lloyd: (exists) Kai: Okay, everyone let your guard down! ALSO. LOVE THAT THE SONG ON THE RADIO IS JUST A ROCK REMAKE OF HIS LIL THEME IN THE SOUNDTRACK
I decided to watch Ninjago season 1 for the nostalgia and it's honestly crazy to think that Lloyd started out as bratty troublemaker who released the serpentine to steal candy from a village, kidnapped and let Ed & Edna almost turn into snakes, attempted to start a serpentine civil war for the Hypnobrai betraying him, and raiding his old school for expelling him. But if you look at 3:17, Kid Lloyd was a quite tragic character. He was abandoned by both of his parents and left at a school for bad boys where he was bullied. Then he got kicked out for "not being evil enough" and was left HOMELESS on the street, without food or water. Furthermore, he didn't have a family or friends. In the end of episode 2 of season 1, where the Ninjas found their new home and enjoyed dinner, we see a sad Lloyd watching them before continuing his journey to release the Fangpyres. When Lloyd met Pythor, he felt that he finally had a friend (although Pythor only wanted the map). Lloyd was quite lucky to be taken care by his uncle and the Ninjas, turning him into a hero who has saved Ninjago multiple times from villains.
I realize this is a kids' show that's essentially a toy commercial, but it has some of the best-written female characters I've seen in recent television!
I seriously have to give Ninjago credit. Not only does it have the only instance (as far as I know) of romance between literal robots, but it’s also genuinely wholesome and well done
