Is copying others painting ok or not before you find your own style??????
@davidm.kesslerfineart1717
@davidm.kesslerfineart1717 21 час назад
@@najwaalnaief3275 it’s always better not to copy someone else’s work. Here’s the problem: some folks copy others work (which is copyright infringement and a crime) and then they decide to sell that piece, which is even larger crime. Try to come up with your own material - it really isn’t that difficult.

Very helpful info. Looking back on some of my pieces that worked, and the ones that seemed to be missing something, this definitely sheds light on the areas I struggled. I do however question if all three bullet points are needed. I’ve seen some really incredible work from artists like Samantha DaSilva where no hard edges are found, and no color wheel rules were followed. I think adding the element of texture can change some of these rules and add a point of interest where hard edges or color change is lacking. This was still immensely helpful nonetheless! Thanks for sharing this content.

Have you experienced the gel medium drying completely on the paper or board before affixing them together? I was adhering a large painting to a wood panel and by the time I got done putting the gel medium on, the first half of the application was dry to the touch. I have an even bigger painting that I want to adhere to a panel and now I'm nervous about that happening again. I would love any suggestions you might have for this.
@davidm.kesslerfineart1717
@davidm.kesslerfineart1717 Месяц назад
@@kimknollart I have not experienced that, but I live in a humid climate. My guess is your studio has dry air and it makes the medium dry too fast. It could also be the you are applying it too thinly on the surface. You may be able to add a retarder of some sort to lengthen the drying time.

When I'm painting however, often times I find myself wondering if my work is going to be any good for someone to hang up. I've just watched a video by one Dianne Mize (I may have got the name a bit wrong) which insists that Ultramarine is cooler than Prussian Blue; she takes yellow, ANY yellow, as being warm, using a version of the colour wheel which she's taking literally; but it isn't laid out in any logical way.... what effect this has on actual painting I'm not sure.... but when I suggest students take a look at RU-vid for guidance, I do need to be a lot clearer about those to whom they should pay attention. Dianne is saying the exact opposite of what you're saying, and in my opinion - she's totally wrong. I wonder what effect these opinions have on actual paintings - do you think it would make a real difference, one way or the other?
@davidm.kesslerfineart1717
@davidm.kesslerfineart1717 2 месяца назад
Robert, I’m not sure what effects it would ultimately have on paintings. What I have presented here are generally accepted as universal principals about color that I have gleaned from others over the last 30 plus years - these are not opinions I have made up. Some others will have different opinions, as they always do. Thanks for watching.

Use or recycle large, used plastic jars or buckets stuffed w tightly rolled up newspaper, junk mail, rags, etc. coming out the top like a funnel. Pour the dirty water down the top of the roll which will capture both the dye colors and solids, and helps wick and evaporate the water. Replace crumbling paper (or whole container) as needed, throw discards into landfill trash as normal. This will keep the more toxic or deep staining pigments like the Thalos out of your sinks and water treatment plants.
