15:42 - This is the moment that cements Gaiares as one of the greatest shmups ever made. That jump to lightspeed custcene as the music kicks in...pure 16-bit art.
Yo, straight up, this game would have scared the shit out of me as a kid. The opening sequence alone with all the faces flying past would have been enough. Those digitized cutscenes? Game, set, and match.
Too much going on in the SNES version of a lot of these tracks, especially Pyramid of Fear. Personally prefer the Genesis over SNES anything, but I'll be fair. Both had their strong points. I'm not going to be a dick and declare one superior to the other.
When I first played Shining Force, I couldn't really get into it since at the time I didn't like tactical rpgs. However a few years after playing it for the first time, I loved it and ended up beating the game. The soundtrack is good, but I couldn't stand that sound effect that played every time a character talked. :S
Time Castle, Future, Emerald Forest (surprisingly NOT the name of a Sonic stage), and the Lava special zone vibe with me the most... really wasn't a fan of the actual game though :P Seconding someone else's remark about the vertical dithering, it was used to good effect if you were playing in composite. Why is the dinosaur on the cover so dummy thicc though?
Trippy as can be experience when it released. Like toejam and earl music vibe but in some back to the futiure kid-tim burton kinda way. Ppl who beat this are skilled ninjas. Change my mind.
Idk why matt furniss (the music composer for the game) did amazing soundtracks for not only this game but for other genesis games like mickey mania, idk why he always had to go hard in the soundtrack deppartment for these types of games
