I remember seeing this in '85 in LA, and again in '99 at a screening in Hollywood with a Q&A w/ William Friedkin. LA is a terrible place now, and I will never return there, but it was a helluva place to grow up in the 70s and 80s. THANK YOU FOR THE BONUS GIFT AT THE END 🙏🏼
First experience a Demo. Played the full game when someone let me borrow it. And buying it because there was an alternative ending. The replay of this game great
I saw that alternative ending on the DVD, Chance doesn't get shot in the head in that ending. The bullet damage is in his torso and its done in a way where it's clear that there is impact but its plausible that someone could survive the wound.
Interesting piece. I concur with your judgement that Brian Cox is the definitive Lecter. Just a note: I really liked your piece, but I found it irritating when you stopped your narration to allow the intertitles to appear as text on screen only. The few where you voiced the intertitle as it appeared were much smoother and less intrusive.
Realisticly, ur personality can change and u can remember things of the other person who donated an organ to u due to cell memory, so it wasnt far fetched but the liquid arm is one hell of a reach
Great video. To Live and Die in LA has long been one of my all-time favorite films, and it's nice to see if it finally gets explored and receives its just due as a classic of cinema.
For me it was the worse one but we're all different. It had way too much codec conversations much more than the other MGS's and it drove me completely insane (yes there was that amount of codec. There's other reasons I had back in the day too but that was the main one. Oh and yes I felt scammed not playing solid snake with otacon all the way. When you switch characters over was a bit disappointing and you waited to be switched over back to solid snake and it never happened 😂
Anyone know the background music that runs from 4:10 to 8:06? I've checked the background music playlist in the description a couple times, but haven't found it. Unless I'm being blind 💀
@@gravysandwich5010 no it’s a custom track I had made for the video that somehow I lost among all my files. Sorry this video is it’s only existence now
@@PaperStarship Ah, no worries then man. Gotta compliment your music skills though since it perfectly fits the MGS vibe, as well as the video in general, absolutely fantastic documentary 👍
It's so fascinating that after it came out this movie was derided as too of its time. Now its beloved for that exact reason. Every frame is a painting, every drone of the syth draws you in. Its almost fantasy like, then pierced by horrible story beats. A bold film that embraces the time it's made will always appeal to me more. Im not one of those people who rages against modern films (when havent people been calling the decade they live in the worst in film history) but I think the vague 15 minutes into the future vibe a lot of films have will look a lot less special in 20 years.
i had the joy of only recently playing mgs2 and omfg im so glad i played it now in 2024 rather then back in the early 2000's. mgs2 is one of those games that gets better as time passes. like it definitely wasn't as good in 2001 as it is now mainly because of how well it predicted the future
My favorite film. Petersen is idol like. What makes him so “punk rock,” is that he killed his own career as a leading man, shortly after “Manhunter.” Petersen was invited to play Tom Berenger’s character in “Platoon,” he turned it down. Berenger won an Oscar…Imagine one year after “L.A.” Petersen and Dafoe staring AGAIN as rivals, only this time, with Dafoe as the hero and Petersen, as the villain. Would have been iconic. Then, Petersen turned down Harvey Dent in Tim Burton’s “Batman,” as well as Henry Hill in “Goodfellas.” Petersen is so cool, he walked away from the lead in Scorsese’s BEST film…Takes some real nuts…amigo…
@@PaperStarship no serial killers in 2024, no detectives seaching for serial killlers in 2024, no mredia coverage of seriaL killers in 2024, "Manhunter" is like making a movie about dinosaurs. The dinosaurs were awesome; but they don't exist anymore.
The tweet was poorly worded, this video doubles down. I mean just take the L and move on. Joke wasn't that funny. Wasn't communicated properly. Everyone makes a bad joke. Everyone puts their foot in their mouth. I'm sure if you explained it to him and tried to see it from his perspective it'd smooth things over, but it's so much of a non-issue, he's probably forgotten about it. I think making depricating jokes on the internet is really tricky because neither person "knows" the other and it can come across meanspirited. Saying "I wish you could take a joke" expresses that you're only seeing it from your POV. I think he's entitled to a reaction. Make a second twitter account, specify it's an alt for your main, and clear the air with him. Simple as that
One of those great thrillers that burns into your memory ...Peterson got the role of will graham in Michael Manns "Manhunter " because of his great performance in this .Another mid 80s classic .
I remember as a kid just being annoyed the entire game as the main character wasn’t snake and playing it waiting for the characters to switch to snake lol
2:28 i was 14 when metal gear solid came out on the ps1 and i forget what year mgs 2 came out but i still remember the stories of both games and recently i have been telling my lady about the two stories and comparing them to the times of today. It’s so awesome that you have thought the same 🤣😂
