My late husband was diagnosed with PD in 1997 and passed away in 2003 at the age of 70. He had slowed down and his balance was a bit off in the early stages but mentally he was still sharp and enjoyed life. However, in my experience, the medication he was taking (Madopar/Sinemet) created a nightmare of mental changes. He became paranoid, delusional and started having hallucinations. Life became unbearable not only for him but for me and my son. What the medical team failed to tell us was his physical problems would be somewhat improved but his mental condition would decline. It was a nightmare for all of us and he no longer enjoyed his life. Death was a blessing.
It's so frustrating to me to listen to doctors and the first thing they say is "We don't have any drugs for this. All we can do is recommend lifestyle interventions." Why does everything with doctors have to be about drugs? I'm looking at this poor lady with dyskinesia that is a side effect of levodopa. That isn't Parkinson's causing her to move like that. We need more than just drugs. Every time we get a drug, it fixes one thing and breaks two others. I have hope that one day we'll overcome Parkinson's for myself and others, but I certainly don't expect it will come from a pill.
I am 59 years old and was diagnosed two years ago. Once I was diagnosed I could date the symptoms back to 1995. I have been an elite triathlete since 1987 and have been doing over 10 hours a week of training including regular high-intensity training throughout all my adult life. I will be doing a half Ironman on July 9th, and while I doubt I can still make the podium while fighting Parkinson's I may still be close. Currently, I am on no drugs. I have a right-hand tremor, and my right side is clearly symptomatic along with my back. I would answer NO to all other symptoms and hope to stay off of all drugs for as long as possible. Should I consider drugs?
One weight loss scenario they do not address is someone already at a healthy weight who begins losing weight. I lost over 35lbs and being a backpacker was very in tune with caloric intake. I was eating 5000 calories a day to maintain a sub healthy weight. It was caused by severe tremors. DBS resolved the issue and then my weight returned to normal and my caloric intake returned to normal.
Vitamin 12 deficiency, my husband has to have treatment of injections. He had a special blood tests requested by his Neurologist. He will have ten injections in the next two weeks. He his weak at present .He wiil be monitored in future to check his levels to make sure they are stable.

Why isn't there more research being done on natural dopamine and suppliments instead of these invasive surgical implants? I had DBS surgery 2 years ago at the U of R and it created worsened symptoms especially Dystonia and I am now scheduled to have it removed. I was taking 14 C/L pills per day, plus 2 C/L ER, plus amantadine, rasagaline, setraline. I recently (2 months ago) started using Mucuna Pruriens and now I don't take any Rx drugs. I think this is very important subject that needs to be further accepted and investigated by leading neurologist as your selves.
Still very surprises how all my symptoms of Parkinson’s disease just went aware after undergoing MADIDAHERBALCENTER treatment but I am very much happy because I don’t long have them anymore for like 9 months now.

I experience apathy shortly AFTER taking the medication. I'm fine before it, so for me apathy appears to be a side effect of the medicine more so than an affect of the disease.
