NGL this is awesome, i really want to play Asheron's call again after just seeing that purple armor, banderlings used to be so frightening as a kid, I remember getting my ass beat constantly anytime i came into this quest
I was hooked on this game from the start. I purchased my first computer at Cosco in 1998 for $500 bucks. I logged onto AOL and got mail. The mail was of this game called Asherons Call. It was a demo. I downloaded it and ran up and down a road killing creatures called Druges. I sighed up for Beta that very moment. A few months later another e-mail notified me that the game was now in Beta. I had forgotten all about it. I logged in and ran around with everyone else trying to figure out what this game was all about. I got stuck between a table and the wall. I called out in general chat for help. I was instantly freed and thanked for my help for finding an error in the game. I was hooked from that day on. I purchased the game the very first day it hit the stores and played on Thristledown and Dark Tide from day 1 to closing. I never played a single minute of WOW. I still own the computer and the CD which are both boxed up and stored in my garage.
vitae penalty doesn't reduce experience. It reduces skills and secondary attributes down to a maximum of -50%. As you earn xp it slowly removes this penalty (restores your vitae)
mistakes from retail asheron's call: 1. Eliminating spell research 2. Covenant armor and gear power creep in general 3. Bots and addons (not fighting them harder) 4. Burun 5. the great creature-rebalance-pocalypse brought to you by the turbine interns who took over later on 6. facility hub and town network 7. "updating" the lugians and lugian citadels 8. making everything a playable race 9. asheron's call 2 10. casinos 11. spell training npc's in arwic and just the abomination that is the modern arwic city in general 12. weekly tokens 13. level 8 spells 14. the drudge "fort" near holtburg 15. prismatic arrows 16. the entire "master of arms" update in feb 2012 17. the updated drudge, mosswart, banderling and tumerok art models 18. eliminating spell economy 19. nerfing life magic drains 20. not expanding on the gromnies as a creature group in the game 21. replacing the original starter dungeon/locations with the academy 22. nerfing original hoary mattekar robe (was originally UP to all unbuffed) 23. all of the changes to original shadow armor
everquest overshadowed ac because it came out first. that's literally the only reason. most people went to eq and never looked back. only the few of us that were just starting to hear about this new thing called "mmo's" and somehow missed eq entirely randomly found ac first and never looked back. ac was a better game in every way except popularity.
originally I think each race (gharu'ndim, sho, aluvian) each had 3 choices of starting location within their own territory aluvian: holtburg, rithwic, lytelthorpe sho: shoushi, yanshi, nanto gharu'ndim: yaraq, samsur, al-arqas
they need to make a new asheron's call game or at least a new mmo that uses the world and mechanics of ac. basically give it the royal, "ff7-remake" treatment
Macroing and Botting are allowed on Asheron4Fun. We do run 2X - XP and Luminance as a baseline. During the weekends, we bump that up to 3X. Currently there is no limit on the amount of accounts you can run or the amount of players you can have logged in at one time. If you have any other questions, please reach out to us. Thank you for the great video. ~Galli
Enjoyed the video... I'd be curious to know if there are any "classic" type servers like EQ P99 or Classic WoW. I used to play on Darktide, back in the day, what a great time for MMO's!! I miss it, haven't really had that much fun, since Shadowbane.
Good question. Might be worth hitting up the official emulator discord and asking around. (discord.gg/C2WzhP9). That time period was definitely a great time for MMOs. Had a capped Horde Shaman in WoW and spent a minute in original EQ. Good times!
It is overwhelming the amount of items that drop and what to do with them. The same devs made Project: Gorgon and did the same thing. Interested in playing this if I can find some cool peeps to play with.
Portal storms were always an added level of anxiety, ha! Going AFK in town was general a risky proposition as it was uncertain where you might get whisked off to!
Nice list, I'll have to check some of those out. Lost Woods in another that is modified quite a bit with buff bots in every starter town and the hub, new quests, etc. Crazy hard mobs around makes it pretty exciting!
Good video! I was excited about Valheel's level 180 option, and learning all spells, so I headed right in! And... could not get out of the training academy without completing an olthoi kill task. Without armor. Died, and resurrected in... the training academy, to do it again. Supposed to pick a class in there, too. Wtf, a class? Not in AC thank you. Deleted my character, dropped the server from ThwargL, left the discord. All I wanted was to be in Holtburg, level 180 (or 275), with spells. Sigh. /rant :)
Played on Thisledown and tanked armies of tuskers to lvl65. Played Ac2 then Daoc until Wow came out. Still playing vanilla wow on free servers. I think what made Ac so great was that there were no thottbot and the likes. Discovering everything on your own. Remember going in one direction in the direlands for about 2 hours and stumbling onto a dungeon portal and being scared shitless.
Have a look at the UtilityBelt DL site: utilitybelt.gitlab.io/ I think that's where I got it from originally. Or hit up the official ACE discord and ask around, may find some help there. discord.gg/C2WzhP9
