Have you met a person with ADHD? I have spent years trying to force meditation. It never worked. I either fall asleep, or I was aware and battling my own head in a grandiose paranoia negative spiral. Guided meditation was worse. It made me feel uncomfortable and creepy. Such gladness when it ends. “How was my experience, you ask? , (officially) I feel refreshed.” 😅 Anyway, I finally said to myself why keep forcing myself to meditate when it never worked? So I stopped banging my head against the wall.

The treatment that needs to be explored asap is yoga and occupational therapy. This is the only diagnosis I've ever found that actually fits me. I've had providers be insulting and therapists say I'm asking for reparenting, for what amounts to a learning disability. I sorta randomly fell into yoga in my early 20s and it totally changed my ability to focus. One thing about the DSM, do other types of doctors have to go by a single book of diagnoses? If someone's leg is strained do we have to have a double blind placebo controlled study to prove that physical therapy should probably help? We know more than enough about neuroscience to knit what to do to help. We know yoga and meditation increase the ability to focus and reduce default mode network activity. I've had a lifetime of being treated like a slacker including by medical professionals. And I've also had periods where I got to do lots of focus practice like yoga or exercise in general and things like playing an instrument and performed at a very high level. If I had gotta more direct help and/or gotten to do those things for longer without bad jobs and abusive people fighting against me doing what I need to do I think it would have become much more durable and permanent as well. I don't think we need any more research to start implementing common sense treatments. Not that more research is bad but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know what to do.

This therapist’s recommendations will not work if there is poor or no communication between the couple over time, no diagnosis, and no willingness from the ADHD partner to get assessed and get help. You cannot help someone who doesn’t want help.

thing is, personally i have always had trouble staying awake normally and i think its something like getting flooded with too much of sleep pressure adenosine even literally feeling it having also autism and it literally just feels like your brain builds up pressure and also it makes you often like super comfortable and drowsy and even lowkey sleepy euphoric kinda lulling you to sleep just like you experience trying to stay awake too long but this happens even sleeping 10 hours or even the whole day if i dont get caffeine coz sleeping repeatedly so much is making your brain feel like you were run over by a truck having such huge headache.

What do you do when you live in a rural area with no resources and no help? I listen to this and there’s no team, no services, and resources. I dont understand how this episode is helpful for people who are actually dealing with this.

ok hold on a second. ART does need to meet standards! Saying you don't have to strive for perfection is excusing bad technique! c'mon, that's a serious disservice to arts as a whole!

Very interesting and affirming presentation. I oscillate multiple times a day, every day, since the early 1980s, between feeling a fleeting glimmer of self worth, and sudden, intense plummets into The Hole. Years ago just a slight dip *hurt* a lot, physically and emotionally. Nowadays it’s just how I am, and I’ve had to accept it. It hurts longer and deeper and more pervasively, but the physical aspect is blunted. (Except for flare ups of chronic sciatica and digestive issues from chronic stress.)

I certainly have CDS. I don’t meet criteria for ADHD… not even close! Yet I have attention issues. I have all the symptoms of CDS. I also have autism. Another odd thing is that I am sleepy and fatigued all the time despite getting excellent sleep and being an above average athlete. I have a reputation with my track and cross country teams for never knowing what we are doing for a workout. My teammates always have to tell me what’s going on.

The label still sucks. We already suffer from the stigma of appearing to be slow and incompetent. People think we are making a conscious choice to work slowly. Also the constant references to children leaves us adults feeling abandoned.

Being ADHD myself, imo it maybe best if an ADHD person partners with another ADHD person or remains single as there’s a chasm between the Neuro-typical and Neuro-divergent behaviors and unless there is boundless love, understanding and empathy on both sides it’s bound to be a conflicted relationship. This divergence is not only problematic in romantic relationships but also in families and schools where Neuro-divergent people are forced to conform to a Neurotypical world. The ADHD brain is now being studied, researched bringing better understanding to both ADHD and non-ADHD alike; so we can learn to balance each other out.

My partner goes into a negative spiral over the silliest things. Yesterday there was a baseball game and we were both watching it and all was going well and the team partner likes was ahead and then in the last inning the manager did something -changed pitchers or something and partner's fav team lost by one point. Partner immediately had a tantrum. He started saying oh that manager he’s such an a hole and F him and he needs to leave or he should be fired and he was just going on and on. I kept saying “regulate regulate your emotions!”He continued on so I said is this useful ? is this helping you to repeat this over and over again about what an ahole The Team manager is? So it was almost 730 at night and I said I’m going to bed. I’m not gonna listen to this so I went in the bathroom and took a bath and he went in his room - we sleep apart-- and went to sleep. I thought how immature and ridiculous and I went to bed, about 830 and I slept OK but I woke up thinking about it. This morning partner was over it but how stupid to get so upset over a ball game and to carry on like a child! I feel so sad and hopeless. I want him to see his doctor but how many family doctors understand ADHD?

It’s so funny that the reverse is almost always true. Most adult ADHD people have borderline and narcissistic personality disordered traits and characteristics. They overlap so much that it becomes a huge issue for where to draw the boundary between the ADHD and a personality disorder.

I was diagnosed with ADHD in my fifties and realized that I'd been struggling with it all my life. Getting on medication for it was a blessing! Then my psychiatrist took me off of the medication (amphetamines) because she said it could lead to Alzheimers and I was in my early sixties. I"m 70 now and I really miss that medication! Does anyone know of some holistic medicines that would help?

If you feel like you cannot be sure of your memories, decisions, or opinions, then you are more susceptible to a don’t rock the boat bias, or to blindly trusting in the authority or knowledge if someone else, and you end up spending so much energy on dealing with that uncertainty that you cannot make plans that will potentially help you, especially if those plans are difficult, require courage, are risky, or if you are unsure of facts pertaining to those plans. So, for example, you don’t need to turn some one’s family against them if you can convince them they their family has abandoned them or are a threat. Also if you make someone constantly focus on external problems of exaggerated proportions or tgat are wholly fictitious, they have no ne tap energy or time to deal with the fact that you are in fact the real problem.

For Perfectionists, it's a tragic self-fulfilling prophecy: By worrying about failure, our worry causes us to underperform. Whereas, if we were more carefree and had more confidence, our performance would better align with the high standards we set for ourselves.

Parenting with AHDH is so hard, especially when you're not diagnosed or newly diagnosed. When you start to understand how AHDH impacts you and your parenting style you begin to have a bit more compassion for yourself and learn methods and tips that work for you instead of trying things that don't work for someone with a unique brain ❤😊

I didn’t know this was common for people with ADHD. I just got out of first relationship in college and was diagnosed while in college. I never built up what a relationship was supposed to look like growing up. My partner did treat me like I was nothing I didn’t know any better. He would rotate between the same people and cheat. He would verbally abuse me and not think he did anything wrong. I couldn’t even get him to understand the concept of empathy. I kept giving him chances because I thought he would change. I was going to leave before and then he started to try. He bought me flowers, he helped with things, and he took me out. It never got better I knew things were going to get worse. I never trusted him. I didn’t know how to leave without being pulled back in. I’m glad I left before things got more violent.
