Are there any steps to making sure that new team members/independent freelance grant writers do not try to take new clients and make them their own, besides having a contract with the new grant writer?

In mid 2023, I was asked by a nonprofit org to write some grants for them. In less than one year I won them over $800,000…3’ out of 4 proposals that I submitted were funded. I was never a grant writer but I worked as a grants and contract administrator for 9 years, so I have a lot of experience with those types of documents. My background is in nonprofit and public funded programs. I have a master’s degree in Public Administration.
"everything is figure-out-able" I'll remember that. My first project is one million dollars for a gym and classrooms for the private school at the church where I am a pastor.
Sorry to say this feels really overedited and hard to stay engaged with. Too many cuts and zooms and sound effects. Nope! Grant writing is a field where a degree is not required. You can learn from hands on experience. We've got a solid roadmap to get you where you want to go w/o going back to school i.e no more student debt. Why are you looking into grant writing on top of your degree? Career pivot?

Why should someone pay a grant writer upfront when the grant seeker does not know if the writer will perform and result in a grant for the grant seeker?
A fair question and a good reason to take things step-by-step with a grant consultant. Consider asking questions about their background and experience. Have a discovery call to see if it feels right. Just remember that, par the industry, there is no 100% guarantee when you're going after grants. Therefore you're aiming for the the highest likelihood of success and someone (either within your organization or as an outside consultant) to guide you through the process (from outreach to hitting submit) that knows what they're doing. You're paying for expertise to get you the best result. You're not paying for a guaranteed win because it's an unrealistic standard in the grant world. Does that make sense?

There are all kinds of grants out there, though grant funding for individuals (i.e. flight school) aren't as common. You'd probably want to start with financial aid / scholarships through your school first if you're looking for individual funding. Though you can search on the grants.gov site using your keywords to see what comes up as a next step.
