It must have been done several times but I wonder if you have ever tried to produce a Japanese wineberry (Rubus phoenicolasius) and blackberry or raspberry cross. The main reason I think it would be so useful is that the wineberry is naturally resistant to bird predation due to the hairy, prickly calyxes around the fruit, though the fruit tastes delicious to me even though it takes some time to harvest due to the small berries. Of course they don't naturally flower at the same time as most blackberries or raspberries but this could be overcome by holding back or advancing the flowering, or storing pollen for use. Tell me if this would be a wasted effort as it has been done before and produces a sterile outcome? Where would I find out if you are not sure?
Is this the Cassissima Black Marble variety? If not, can you please make a video about that one. It sounds very good, from the research I made, but it would be useful to see video because I would like to grow lots of them.
A bit of feedback. Most people are probably coming here in the same situation as me. I planted a bare root quice tree last year. I pruned it heavily, back to a 4ft single leader. It has grown to over 3m high in a year, with 4 or so branches. Now I want to know, since it is winter again, how do I prune it? Do I cut it right back again, to a single leader? Do I prune all the branches back by half? I don't know. This video didn't really help me.
Get Dobrynya, Selechenskaya 2, or Titania. They are all very big berries with great taste profile and heavy yields. Next year I will get my hands on Tahsis.
No one sells these varieties, when I made my original post 3 years ago only last year a single currant grew from 50 seeds I purchased, Titania. I just acquired a branch from a black currant that was brought over 30 years ago that was grown in Belarus 60 plus years ago on a farm. Saw a picture of it and no joke it looked over 8 feet tall....
In hindsight, are you still sure it's safe to plant your hollies this deep? Yes it looks better at first but aren't they dying later from fungal diseases?
Hi very informative.Thank you .Whats happens if leader in columnar peach was cutted to make more vase shape?I made mistake not thinking much that its columnar type of fruit tree... is going still to grow?
Our Navaho is evergreen in mild winter London (UK, not Canada). We had frost but that’s just for 2 or 3 days in a week here and a week there. So I just cut off all the greenish brown old leaves and the new baby green leaves are good to go. I’m very happy that it is in the middle of my garden in a long raised bed and when we look out into the garden, we see our evergreen Navaho! That was a delightful surprise as cultivated blackberries aren’t supposed to be evergreen but then London had a mild winter which was great.
I bought a goji 'Instant Success' in 2021 and planted out in my garden in France at 500m above sea level. In its first year it grew very vigorously with many branches over 2m high. I do not feed or water any of my fruit trees and bushes. I decided to get rid of this goji as it was much bigger than the video led me to believe and much more vigorous - shoots were appearing in a grassed area about 4 m away. As much of the plant and its roots were dug up as possible - very difficult because the roots going downwards were about 3cms thick and beyond a metre deep and there were 1.5-2 cms thick roots going in every direction underground. I covered the position where the main stems had been with a thick, light proof tarpaulin and also placed other tarpaulins over where roots had travelled. Last year, 2023, every 3 to 7 days, I had to dig up suckers which were still appearing all around where the main stems had been for a radius of about 4 -5m. I had to lift the tarpaulins to dig out shoots which were lifting the tarpaulins. Now it is March 2024 and the tarpaulins are still in place. So far this year I have had to dig up two suckers. I do not recommend this goji selection. My experience with it does not match the description in this video.
It amazes how other people can speak English so well. My experience with Navaho Blackberries...they grow like crazy and you will soon have many many plants.....
Thank you for sharing... I have this question about all kind of trees not only apple, i hope you dont mind,brother.... I have seen people force flower cannabis plant by controlling light cycle, that same people also control the nutrient uptake of the plant upto ppm levels in hydroponics... Is there any way to make the trees fruit early from seeds before their sexual maturity, like using Deep Water Culture to cultivate more roots and adjusting fertilizers, temperature, light cycle ?? Or is there any chemical to make the trees sexually mature faster? It would reduce breeding time drastically if possible 😅
I have never planted blueberries because I won't plant once-a-year bearing plants. I live in southwest Florida (USA) where the growing season is year-round so in my case it makes no sense to have a plant that only fruits once a year take up precious garden space. When a repeat-bearing blueberry becomes available in my area I will certainly purchase it.
Hello I've got a huge red current bush which is really old and there's loads of branches growing sideways with load's of side shoots growing up and last year I had thousands of fruit. What do you suggest for that situation 👍💚💛❤️
