Hello, this is very random but I will be moving into one of the apartments in canal works with this shared terrace soon. What was the extent of flood damage to these apartments in 2015? I understand there has been some flood prevention work since then, but I would like to be prepared if there is another event similar to this in the future.
Just image being a bobby walking along a street at night during the blitz and suddenly hearing these going off ... probably would almost have a heart attack
I wonder if the people who designed these sirens back in the pre-WW2 years knew that they would become legendary as producing the scariest siren tone ever. This sound can make a person's heart stop!
Not quite! This system comprises of Secomak GP8s, a Klaxon GP12 and a GP10 if I remember correctly. The GP8 is a CS8 with no shutters so you’re on the right track.
sounds like a 10/12 port chopper with a dual shaft universal motor, following sirens that could be: carter, castle's casting, not likely a CLM. most likely a scatter of secomaks/klaxons gp6 sirens
I'm pretty sure they are Carter sirens, they are situated in the 3 main Calder valley towns, Mytholmroyd, Hebden Bridge (this one) and Todmorden. During high water levels the whole valley whales!
I used to live in Bradford from the 1980s to the 1990s which isn't too far from hebden Bridge. Being an 1980s child I wasn't aware of nuclear war until I was about 4 years old (a little early I know) but then again I did stumble on my dad watching the legendary bbc threads. Dad educated me about it all even though the rest of the family weren't so keen but I firmly believe it is a pretty important issue considering the world we live in right now.
Hi Sara, My name is Joe and I work for a documentary production company called Docsville Studios. We are currently 3 months in to making a film about climate change and flooding across the UK. I stumbled across your video and was wondering whether you would allow us permission to potentially include your video as part of our film. It is worth mentioning that as we are in the early stages of the filmmaking process it is hard to say what will make the final cut. We have a really amazing team working on this documentary, and have ambition to make it something very powerful and not like any other film covering the UK experience of floods. Please let me know if there is any further information that you require. My email address is joe@docsvillestudios.com
Hi Sara, by way of introduction my name Joe and I work for a documentary production company based in London. We are currently in the process of making a film about flooding across the UK and stumbled across your videos of the floods in Hebden Bridge in 2015. I was just wondering if there is a way that I can contact you more directly? Many thanks, Joe
These are SECOMAK X cold war sirens. But now a new NON AIR RAID KLAXON GP12 has been put up and taken over flood warning duty from the older SECOMAK GP8 in hebden bridge and it also sounds the attack signal but in a newer style because the motor is more powerful so it ramps up quicker and ramps down abit more faster
Is it possible that after WW2 we have this sound genetically built into our brains and associate it with fear or warning. Such a scary noise, makes the hairs on my neck stand up.
They are WWII sirens, hauntingly beautiful sound, gets you in the pit of your stomach, especially when the river looks like a writhing serpent about to devour you.
@@SazzleCam not ww2 these are cold war era castle castings sirens. Castle castings never existed then as it was carter who built ww2 sirens. Carter sirens became castle castings in the 50s but carters were used on fire stations and surface mines gas works water works and so on and after the cold war there was a need for flood sirens so they thought we will sound the attack signal for floods instead of air raids
@@SazzleCam gents and carters were the main siren manufacturers in ww2 plus maybe steam or compressed air sirens like the old fog sirens for factory's before electric sirens took over
Hi - I'm currently making a video about WW2 sirens in service today and I'd like permission to use this clip. In return I will fully credit your video and provide a link to your channel for my 660,000 subscribers to click through. Do you agree? Please email me at hello@markfelton.co.uk. Many thanks!
