That’s a nasty sand bed to bed talking about maintenance..regular cleaning maintenance.

Here in Australia it's just too easy to get fresh salt water, we have guys who are licensed to collect it from national parks and beaches that are far away from cities. We have companies that will deliver it to your door in 1000L lots (264 gal). It's a good weekly ritual because it makes you "disrupt" the tank and look at it. You can see which fish act weird under mild stress, it makes you notice stuff about corals as the water level drops. It reminds you to check all the equipment over, see if lines are clogged or skimmer is too wet/dry etc. It reminds you that your filter media needs to be changed sometimes. And so on.

Yes! Thank you so much for the complete and practical video on how to adjust the Waterbox Sump to contain both the RedSea Reefmat 500, the RedSea Skimmer 300 and have a Refugium altogether. The way you work neatly organized, despite the unavoidable mess it creates. Looks very similar to my situation I'm into right now 😅 this really helps me out, THX again!

Sorry if I missed it, what do you do about nitrate build up? does the refugium take care of that?

Hi Reef Rx, I want to start culturing the phytoplankton myself. What is the salt salinity do we need? and what is the recommend temperature?

Great video and idea… did you leave a gap at the bottom of the new panel or is it siliconed at the bottom also and the water flows from the top only???

Super nice tank man! You have a lot of skill and I hope to be close to that level one day🤞 I am about to enter the saltwater world and I want to start off with an 8ft tank as I know eventually I will want to upgrade. Is this a bad idea and would I be able to run it with similar to your filtration or need more for that size? Also where can I get some of those shelves you have on the inside of your tank? Guessing glued with no magnet?

I’m nearly done with my basement fish room so I’ll share some lessons learned. I did FRP walls and epoxy floor covering. It’s a semi finished space, but I wanted it water resistant as possible. They make nice PVC wall panels you can get. I would consider those instead of drywall. Other products are Fiberglass reinforced plastic panels. I’d also install some dedicated 20 amp circuits with waterproof covers and make sure you have a little utility sink. I wish I would have done a drop ceiling for a more finished look, but I covered my ceiling with cheaper Polywall panels to contain the insulation. Construction can get a little spendy-especially infrastructure for a fish room, so do your planning and leave options! If you’re going for a finished look, I highly recommend running some conduit through the walls in case you want to run wires or tubing afterwards. Good luck and happy planning!

I hate reeders bragging about this. The top guys in the hobby will tell you this is a bad idea. Congrats if you accomplish it. But I would steer people away from the idea.

Sounds like you have a good plan in your mind. Why not use the 300 gallon stock tank as your sump you have it already and wouldn't need to remove any of the substrate. I use a 150 gallon stock tank for my 130 main display. I also plan to install a heat exchanger to heat the tank off of my hot water tank.

I really want to get the reef mat 500 but i would be putting it in a 20 long tank do you think this would work in a sump that size ? And now that it has been a year since you have been running the reef mat 500 would you still recommend it for use ?

Dude, the well water thing scares the hell out of me. Have you considered looking into vapor distilation to purify your water befor the rodi system? The whole thing about disposing of the water after has got to be a major challenge.
