I played this piece for my recital when I was about 12. Now, as a person of a certain age, I wonder how I did it. I don't think I can play it now. This young man played it so beautifully!
There's also a later and lighter transcription by the Russian pianist Aleksandr Siloti which is worth comparing: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XTJbs1FOwDE.html Considering that the original version of this piece is for solo violin, I suppose the weight you choose is optional. But my favourite transcription of Bach's orchestral version is the multitracked recorder performance by James Howard Young: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tIXBUp55SUc.html
Marvellous. Great pianism and Honor to Liszt. Were I to go on a journey out to space and being allowed to bring only One piece of music I would surely choose his First 15 hungarian Rhapsodies
I can't see how something as beautiful as this can be dismissed simply because it may not be articulated the way we think the composer intended. We are fortunate enough these days to be able to listen to performances on period instruments we guess may have sounded and been played a certain way. But we can also experiment with new sounds and perhaps indulge in fantasies about how composers from the distant past would have written for the wonderful instruments we have today. We can enjoy the best of both worlds.
I agree with those who said this is performed fast. It could still be good for me but the moments he paced faster did not suit my liking. It is unfortunate, probably this is an excelelnt performsnce and I could not appreciate it
Uncharacteristically subdued peformance by this fine pianist. Am curious as to the arrangement . Impressive drawing out of choral lines. That said Lipatti sets the gold standard
After going for so long with only hearing the name of this gorgeous piece, finally getting to hear it played...it's amazing. I have to say... love Hispanic classical piano music now, and I want to hear more.
I'm still practicing on this piece. Currently at page 3 Working on my Trio (will i make it?). Anyways i will be playing this on December wish me luck 😅
