I'm a jazz pianist interested in all kinds of improvised and experimental music. right now i have a project to record all the tunes of the real book (5th ed) as solo piano pieces. i also post other improvisations and recordings in other genres (like rock/broadway/standards/classical/originals).
i also post what i call Neural Net Masterclasses. these videos use a neural net to convert recorded solo piano to midi, which is then rendered with a VST (Pianoteq) so that we can see what the artist did. it's just like getting to sit behind them and have them show you their favorite voicings, how they play a certain passage, etc. i'm not the performer in these! (but i am in everything else.) i post all kinds of piano players. requests are welcome!
real book solo piano recordings get released on Fridays; neural net masterclasses get released on Tuesdays. other stuff comes out at unpredictable times.
Can you elaborate a bit more on what this is, is this some sort of AI playing this piece or it composed it or something? Sorry, some of the words in the description dont make much sense to me
hi, thank you for listening and sorry it's rather vague. a neural net took the audio file and produced a midi file from it. the midi file is then rendered by pianoteq (the software piano you see). so really it's Hampton Hawes doing the performance, although indirectly! the original performance is on his album The Challenge. the tools in the description are what i used to do it.
🙂 Excellent ! Gilles.
thank you for listening. sure, go ahead, if you could link to my channel that would be great. can you post a vid of it also? otherwise i don't think i'd be able to see it.
please do, that would be awesome. i think i performed it in a different key, though, maybe C? can't remember :) hopefully that's not a problem. if you contact me on FB i could render the midi file in a different key if that's better for you.
thank you for checking it out. this is a midi file created by a neural net, i didn't perform it myself. this was one of the first vids i did like this, so the audio isn't great (i figured out a better way to do it later ...) i should re-post with better quality. btw you can buy a complete transcription of this tune and all the other tunes on his album Elegy. just look for ELEGIAC CYCLE TRANSCRIPTION COMPLETE ET ANALYSE (French and English Edition) by ANDRE PHILIPPE. i have it and highly recommed it. very inspirational.
😊 … And obviously, if you could send me the MIDI file, I would be delighted! Yours truly. Gilles. … Gilles.
😊 Very good ! We are rarely disappointed with Mr. Keith Jarrett! Yours truly. Gilles. Gilles.
Thanks and here is what I did with it today.....Thanks for the Love to Frank.........He went too young........enjoy!...ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dMfzpWRVJYA.html
😊 Very good blues which takes unusual paths! If you have time to send me the MIDI file, I would like to listen to it played by my Pianola. Yours truly. Gilles. Gilles.
Hey man love your channel I play along with you with my tenor sax there is a website idk you know it might help you is called: real book search (google just that)
thanks for the info. perhaps you're thinking of this ? www.seventhstring.com/fbindex.html feel free to post a vid of yourself playing along, i'd love to see it!
i'm glad you like it :) it's really like getting a private lesson from all these greats. if there's any request you have don't hesitate to ask. this track was actually a request from a follower! i hadn't heard of this cat and now i listen to him all the time.
@@grandesax ok i will take a look. i think he's an underrated player and i've always dug his playing. as long as there are solo piano recordings on YT i can do it!
@@BudoSaurus well there are solo piano intro and I think he plays with a trio, but I maybe I can email you a version I can try to take the drummer and the bass out with my transcribe + plus app
🙂 Excellent like the first! If you have time, please send me the MIDI file for this 2nd part... Yours truly. Gilles. Gilles.
Awesome! Wow! So maybe a year ago I requested you make one the these for Hailu Mergia - Yefikir Engurguro and Alice Coltrane - Prema. You seemed amenable then. Any updates?
hi, nice to hear from you again. i did the first one a while back, perhaps you missed it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1_0Pu_gYDQ4.html the Alice Coltrane one is unfortunately not a solo piano piece, as far as i could tell, so i don't know how well it would do. do you know of a solo piano version of that tune? if not, you could request something else :)
@@BudoSaurus Woooow TY so much! Feels like Christmas! Alice plays a beautiful version of that song on an old episode of NPR's Piano Jazz. I could link it or send you a recording of that specific part.
thank you for listening! i don't have sheet music since it was improvised from the lead sheet. but i can make the midi file available if you're interested. then at least you can see what i'm playing with a piano vst.
😊 This is truly excellent music ! And I would like, please, if you send me the MIDI file. Yours truly. Gilles. Gilles.
thank you for listening, i really appreciate it. at the moment i don't have anything like that because this was just improvised from the lead sheet. however i have started to prepare sheet music for some of my most popular vids so i could eventually try this one too. in the meantime i could make the midi file available, basically for the price of a beer, if that is something you would be interested in (i've done that for some other performances so people could see what i'm doing).
@@BudoSaurus Thank you for the information. I also work on various songs, but I try to write them down in Muse Score, if only because then I forget what ideas I came up with or what inventions of other musicians I used. Of course, this is then the basis for improvisation. A lot of work, but I don't discover America many times.
