Very beautiful nature, misty mornings especially are my cup of coffee. Your ability to catch the feel of nature at its best is very relaxing. Greetings from Slovakia.
I really enjoyed this one. Very well shot and edited. Isn’t it nice to have all day to explore and film? Watching you get blown around on David was tough to watch, but you handled it expertly. I was just at The Peak last weekend. What a glorious place. Cheers!
I don't know what kind of camera you use but i noticed immediately how high quality the picture is. Really helps to see the true beauty of your surroundings. Enjoyed your video very much 👍 ❤😊
Late Oct. is a sketchy time to take on trips like this. One night of heavy wet snow, often 1 foot or more will dramatically degrade ones ability to travel, sleep, get dry. Tricky portages become extremely high risk with invisible hazards and highly slippery conditions. Sleeping accommodations especially the like of amok hammocks are entirely dysfunctional as wide body tarps are unusable under the weight of snow. Common exit strategies that often involve seasonal forestry roads become unusable, most unfortunate if your vehicle is waiting for you many KM's from maintained roads. You guys went into this just barely prepared for the weather conditions you got which is really fair weather conditions for late October. Yes you did fine and it seems it was a decent trip but consider how it's different if winter actually decides to give you it's first blast. A message more for those viewers that may need a reminder to keep the overconfidence in check when the wanderlust starts becoming an insatiable itch to be scratched. Late fall is absolutely not the time to be overconfident in ones backcountry abilities. Camping in January is way safer than late fall as you enter fully prepared for winter.
Yes yes and yes. Good advice all around. We were not not really prepared, particularly from a skills point of view. Thanks for watching and taking the time to weigh in.
I really enjoyed your video that showcased how the simple sights and sounds of Nature can soothe our souls. One small suggestion. As the spring peepers, chickadees, yellow-rumped warblers, and white-throated sparrows were prominent, it would have been useful to put a caption up when they sang. Great work.
THanks! I'm working on getting to know the different bird sounds :-) I couldn't name half of them in the moment but often look them up after. I agree, it would be neat to identify them during the vid.
I have to add one more comment. I wish you were able to get out to play more often. Your videography and fun personality is a fav. By any chance, do you publish a coffee table book??
How many years do you think the Garmin In reach Mini will last before the non-replaceable battery is no longer chargeable? I am looking at options and this is something I might use a couple of trips a summer. But it would be great to have for the partner who can't navigate if I die or something.
Good question really. I've had mine for 5yrs ish and haven't seen any noticeable decline in retention. The newer ones last even longer apparently. Mine easily lasts me a week out in the bush with an average of 1 to 2 hrs of on time per day. I just use it to check weather periodically and to send a daily check in. If the batter started to go, I imagine it can be run with cable and power bank. It has a small yearly charge + a monthly fee but you can put the account into offline for the times you arent using it.
A spectacular video capturing the sounds of nature, the devastation of the fire from where I spent my childhood summers at our cottage at the very mouth of the Mag Channel looking out to the Bustards. My grandfather built original cottage in 1908. Heaven!
Another stellar job on a beautiful trip! Truly more of a film than a video, as is the case with all of your content. I've been so busy in the workshop all winter that I'm only now getting around to seeing this. Thanks very much for the shoutout with the fire kit. I'm glad you like it! Can't wait for the next one! 🤙🏻🧡🏕🔥🛶
I wish I had both! If I had to make the decision today I would prob get the Prospector. I am liking the Key more now than when I first got it... I've learned some more solo paddle skills now. I was so used to using tandems (when soloing) that it took a while to adjust to a proper solo boat.
Hey Jason, how are you? So nice to have all the birds in this vid, from sandhill cranes to white crowned sparrows, song sparrows and more. Loved the edit of your bee question, nice touch. :0). Crazy fire, thank you for sharing, soon be time for 2024 peepers. :0).,,, Bob
Just watching this for the second time as I’m planning a trip to Booth in August . Where on the lake was the campsite you stayed on ? It looks awesome. Thanks for sharing 😊
Another stunning video Jason! I remember that fire happening. I live almost a three hour drive east of that section of the French River, and when the fire was happening we actually had smoke from it all the way to our area for a few days!
Nice!. The old footage from the French River at the beginning of the vid really reminded me of Warren Miller's ski films. Some nostalgia for me even though I never have paddled the French.
Awesome, thanks for taking us along. At the start of your video, you were singing. At that moment, I realized my singing may not be so bad. 😅. I thoroughly enjoy this trip. Thank you.
I also love fall canoe trips. One advantage Algonquin has over Quetico is the fall colors. Much more prominent. Question:What is your solo boat? Very nice video.
Is that canoe the “puddle duck” as shown in Gil Gilpatricks book? I built one and just love it. So versatile as a solo or tandom canoe. I built mine super light, only weighs about 36 lbs and a joy to portage
Yes! Omg 36 lbs? Mine is 60lbs! It was built long ago by an uncle of mine... his first build. If mine was 36 lbs I would probably never have bought a carbon boat. Id love to see a picture of yours.
I so enjoy the zen of your videos! Your eye for natural beauty is amazing and it is definitely expressed in your filming and photos. Very sad to see scorched land but hopefully it will regenerate to it's fullest over the upcoming years. Thanks for sharing. :) :)
Again, I have said it before and will say it again. Your videos are the best!! The visuals and the sounds love it 😍😍. Question: I always watch your videos on my TV, so the aspect ratio you have chosen is because most of your audience watches them on their phones? Nicely captured, the devastation of nature due to negligent human presence.
Glad to see the ol' Toasty Arse 3000 is still holding strong. I have yet to receive the one I pre-ordered back in 2013. Maybe 2024 will be the year! 🎉😂 Happy New Year, my friend. Cheers to another great year!
You stayed on my favourite site on David! I have done “The Boys” loop a few times in early spring (David, Peter, Harry) and that’s been my first night site each time. As always, a beautifully composed and inspiring video Jason. Thanks for helping to keep me sane during the cold winter months.
Just a thought, but do you have the Merlin app from Cornell? It will tell you every bird species just by their sound. It is truly fantastic, and it is free.
Great video buddy. The audio really took the win on this one. Fantastic job capturing the sounds of spring. Never been to the French before so looks like I missed out on some beautiful areas. Like the limited edition TH toque in grey! Amazing stuff as usual. Thanks for sharing! 👍
