He has also appeared at the Superbowl Halftime Show in 1978 and the Olympic opening ceremony pre- show in 1984. Many of these performances are on youtube.
Carol was in awe genuinely in awe of him as Barbara which is so uncanny. Rest in piece kind Sir for the joy you gave each of us that enjoyed your performances.
My mom said she knew I was gay when in 1972 Jim did Barbara Streisand on the Carol Burnett show and I went to bed singing "Happy Days are Here Again." I was 5 years old
I saw him in the 80's in San Francisco shortly after moving there. It was Judy Garland and he did the draping the mic cord over the shoulder. I had no idea he was talented. I can't image being so extraordinary. So wonderful.
Rupaul is TWO dimensional. His drag is based on magazine models. Which is why it took him 20 years to hit it big. He does music....meh. But Drag Race is what it is from all of the staff, not him. He doesn't bother with the girls unless he has to. And they keep calling him Mama Ru. More like Grandmama Ru. And YES... MANY came before him. Charles Pierce comes to mind. But that was back when TALENT mattered.
