I live in CA. and knew a lot of 49er fans in high school. I was sick of hearing them brag and my friends all knew I liked the Packers and they'd make fun of them, so when the Packers beat them in 89, I was happy. I'm sure all my NFL friends from high school thought of me that day.
Difference in time. 2023: Ball inside 50 with 50 seconds left.....ton of time. But back then....it was like it would take a miracle to get the ball in EZ
In high school, a buddy and I used to make small bets with each other on games. Usually, little things like lunch the next day. For this game, I suggested the winner gets $1 a point for the margin of victory. I picked the Raiders. This proved that I was bad at gambling and shouldn’t do it.
I remember the 1990 injury. An ill-advised throwaway. (while falling, turned sideways, and throwing shoulder inches from the turf). Could have protected shoulder and taken the loss. Never the same after.
They actually did make the playoffs in 1982/83 beating the Cardinals at Lambeau followed by a loss to the Cowboys. But that season was shortened by a strike.
1989 was like a defibrillator season shocked the franchise back to life and gave us hope. I still have my #7 Don Majikowski jersey The heart attack Pack!
Wow this is amazing that you put this on here, with the Packers radio announcers. I'm a lifelong Vikings fan. I remember watching this game and not believing the finish lol. On a side note, I believe this is the last game the Packers played in Milwaukee. After this, I think they decided to play all of their games at Lambeau.
Imagine what would have happened that season if the Packers had rookie Barry Sanders on the team. Add 1400 rushing yards and 14 TDs to that offense. The Packers had already beaten the Super Bowl champ 49ers that season.
Reggie White was such a blessing of hope. I remember being excited that the GBP's were becoming a FORCE to be reckoned with. Good to see Daryl Thompson get a TOUCHDOWN. Rochester M.N. John Marshall Rocket.
1989 was really strange. The Packers picked up so much energy late in the year that they got to 10-6. Though; as their schedule was relatively weak, they shouldnt be over praised. This would probably be a 7-9 or a 8-8 team with a middle level schedule. Though, it definitely laid the grounds for 1992-2004's success under Brett Favre.
Even though I am a Vikings fan, I really loved Max and Jims broadcasts. Football on radio sounds a lot better than on tv, and I'm glad to be subscribed to this channel, to get different types of packer highlights, and games, because I like all teams, even though the vikings are my favorite team, I like to listen to all types of radio sports broadcasters.
