Just got a 1967 T100C scrambler in November. It has what Triumph referred to as the Lucas Energy Transfer system, basically an AC magneto for the competition models, like the Harley XLCH Sportster. No battery. Starts easy and runs great. Don't know if the system was used on the 650s. I believe the mag was phased out in 67 or 68. Love the Triumph scramblers.
Ah, nostalgia. Mine was a 1963. I bought it for $300, I rode it hard on and off road for 4 years then sold it for $350. It always required serious maintenance and was quirky. A few years later, i saw it riding by in downtown Pittsburgh and ran after it (in suit and tie) trying to wave it down so that I could make an offer to buy it back. I was unsuccessful. It was a bare bones motorcycle with a magneto and without a battery. To pass state inspection I had to clip a bicycle horn to the handlebar and squeeze the bulb to create a pathetic beeping sound.
Awesome but you are losing lots of top end and oversll hp with the matador pipe, if I was you I'd look into finding a proper expansion chamber, then she would really rip, as my pursang 125 and 250 absolutley scream in comparison to your build, but either way good looking machine ya got there 🍻 bud
Sorry; just realized the year was 67 and in the zener diode, selenium rectifier period and not a magneto machine. Oh well; the recommendations for mods still stand though.
Probably, you can make a WL produce quite good power. It might not like doing it all day and you'll go through a lot of oil doing it. UL's had better oiling to go with the cubic inches. They did better as touring bikes. A 45 is a great 50 to 60 mph bike.
I think it was either eBay or IBMWR that brought me here. Nice! I'd love to own but the timing is not right with my job, winter coming on and too many rides in my garage. GLWS.
Doug Chaney 21 minutes ago (edited) ALL 4 stroke singles just scream for an electric starter! ...even good starting ones when cold can become impossible to restart when hot or vice versa ....love em and I hate em at the same time ... It was circa 1972/73 When I was begged to go out to the desert one monday morning when John the old parts guy begged me to take a ride with him ...He had stalled his BSA 441 Victor desert sled the day in some hare and hound race (Checkers MC prolly) I guess in total frustrated defeat finally he just had to her there and take the last ride back to the pits by the final sweep crew....no one left in the pits by then I guess to help him on Sunday afternoon ... So anyway we loaded up someone's Husky 250 from the shop (I was a mechanic back then) and drove clear out there from San Fernando Valley Chatsworth "Welty's motorcycles" somewhere out past Palmdale, Ca I think ...we parked the truck and rode double back into the hills to retrieve the bike (bet he was sweating bullets it would still be there!) ....the old girl started right up after sitting all night... but a day earlier? I guess it just beat the old man...I imagine it was just another huge reason why everyone gravitated away from big 4 stroke singles ...after all for less money a 250 two stroke made more power, weighed 40 pounds less or so AND started up reliably with one or two kicks! ....as fun as 4 bangers ARE to ride ?...just just were not worth the trouble ...not to mention the maintenance costs over the long haul compared to the noisy smokers...
Samantha Barton Ha, I have leather jackets for riding and race leathers for racing. I actually sold that bike and it resides somewhere in Australia now.
