I did the East Highland Way at the beginning of May 2024. 8 days (70 year old with a pack weighing about 35 lbs at the start) with no rain during the day (a few showers during 3 o4 4 nights) and no midges or ticks (at least I didn't see any ticks) but I did put permethrin on my tent and clothing. End of April / beginning of May is a good time to do this walk.
@kenhenley7599 nice one, great effort, it was great weather in may up Scotland and apart from the dog I would of been fine, going back up march and i am tagging on the speyside way as well, thanks for watching and commenting its very much appreciated
Hiya m8, I hope you're well. It's great to hear from you. Yes, I'm definitely up for a meet-up. I will have to pin down a date for next year now m8, mega busy atm lol. I appreciate your support 😀 👍
@barneysbimbles yes it beautiful mate. I've not really spent much time up there, but I'm definitely going back for a camp m8. Maybe go together if you fancy it 👍 as always thanks for your support mate 👍
Yes, I thought I'd bring back the crinkle cut chips lol, delish it was and molly enjoyed being part of it as well. As always, thanks for your support 😊 🙏👍
Great video Chris. Beautiful scenery and definitely reminiscent of the WH Way, rushing water as a constant backdrop lol. Definitely a few boggy bits...I'll never step in a puddle again without testing the depth 😂
Yes, those boggy bits lol, sure keep you on ya toes, lol. It was lovely there, and I'm definitely going back for a wild camp as always. Thanks for your support 😊 🙏👍
Nice 1 fella, as you say even if it didnt go to plan, you can now use this as learning curve to make the next mission successful and less troublesome. live to fight another day, sleepless nights from worry of the ticks on the trail will just drain your energy and you wont enjoy it at all. keep the videos rolling mate 👍
Thanks, mate, and yes, there's always a next time, and I wanted to enjoy the trail rather than worrying all the time. Thanks for your support, mate 👍 😀
Gutted I couldn't come with you as you know. But despite the initial disappointment it was definitely a good call for you and Bear with regard to tick issues. Good reflections at the end too, brutally honest as ever Chris with good pointers especially if anyone is taking their dog along.
Yes, I know, mate, but hopefully, next time, and it was the right choice for us both that I pulled it, no ego make the right choice lol, as always, thanks for your support 😊 👍
Fair play mate. You and bear seriously don't want Lyme disease. I really respect your honesty - vids like this will stop other people coming unstuck out there too. Next time! All the best, Andy
Honestly, it is the best policy, especially when you are in the outdoors as shit can get real very quickly. Thanks for watching and commenting. it's very much appreciated 👍🙏
And now over to our correspondent Chris for the weather "well it's one of them days today where it's a bit Muggy Hot but then tomorrow it'll be gopping..."😂 Looks like you made the right call Chris, ticks aren't nice and you don't want that anxiety looming over you when you want to be enjoying the walk. I imagine an Autumnal hike might be much better for you 👍
Thanks m8, just call me Carroll 🤙 yes honestly is the nest policy when in the outdoors . If ya do not, that's when it starts to go wrong in a big way. As always, thanks for your support, mate 👍 👌
If you're trying to bake stuff in the Trangia why not try the smaller 27 bowl inside the larger 25 bowl, with spacers and put the big frypan on the 25 bowl? That way there'd be warm air all around the bowl and maybe you could get a crust.
Yes, I could use other items, but I want to show what you can do with one standard setup, but that's a good idea you have made and will give it ago. Thanks for commenting 😀
Good that you cooked this in the hard anodised pots, I don't think it's safe to do this in the normal ultralight pots. At least Trangia recommend not to cook acidic foods in them
A good reminder as I begin planning outings for summer and fall. The National Outdoor Leadership Schools "Wilderness Guide" emphasizes expedition planning and leadership. I reference it often, even more than sources from my USMC days. Thank you.
100% mate it's all in the planning and this increases your chances to success, it surprises me how many people don't think about what thay are doing and the outcomes from there actions I see it alot in the mountains 😀 😉 👍 thanks for the comment and support
Immediately sub'd. ! In my area of Arizona, fires are risky at certain times of the year. Putting together a Trangia Cookbook. My wife and I eat this at home. Now, I will take it to the field.
Yes I agree, I have a set of trangia size stainless steel pots and use my eagle products kettle or gsi kettle I know its heavier but more robust, even a titanium set would be kool, appreciate your comment and support 😀 👍
