I had a main stem fold over in a high wind last night so have just tried this - hopefully it works and the flowers don't drop, fingers crossed - thx for the tip 🙂
Have you noticed the little white roots that develops on watercress between the leaf and the stem? I recently started some in a kratky system and those little roots are everywhere. I suppose it’s just trying to root itself. But it seems like it will be hard to harvest to not harvest the little roots. Have you encountered this problem?
Think about using rafts rather than tops. With Kratky you spend a lot more energy growing roots than with deep (5-6") water. Use 2" netpots in 1-3/4" holes. The bottom part of the netpot will just touch the solution.
I am just learning this hydroponic eggplants, I have been fighting with aphids and now brown patches on my leaves and killing the leaf, should I prune off those brown leave since they are dying anyways. Mine are just coming on with flowers
It's too bad you can't have portable tanks for market. That way, customers would get their items fresh from the water. Or even better, each head of lettuce in its own jar with a few centimeters of kratky water at the bottom. Simply make the customer pay a deposit price for the jar and accept jar returns. Then it'll be super fresh until they take it from the jar.
I'm glad I found your channel. I wanted to see people who were doing Kratky commercially, not just backyard experimentation. You seem to have set up a pretty good system for doing so. You may not get rich, but you certainly will not go hungry. It's settled. I'll be emulating your system with the addition of meat rabbits. They'll eat all the scraps and roots and provide some good manure that I can turn into compost and compost tea. It's possible the tea could be added to the water for more nutrient. We'll see.
I'm in Charlotte (zone 8a). I have a cold frame at my house and wondering what I can grow during the winter with my kratky system. I'd appreciate your thoughts. I love Chinese long bean, greens etc.
May I ask if you need to worry about water turning bad/smelly as it is still for at least 6-8 weeks+? Or it won't because the water has been sterile with H2O2 or something?
thanks for showing thus I will try next year as I do grow aubergines but was not sure about pruning. Also the string attached to it is that buried in the pot?
I have well water and the PH is high what do you keep your PH at and does your Kracky PH rise alot? It seems that I am constantly lowering PH. I getting ready to add a Main Circulating tank with Bluelab and parastolic pumps. Growing DWC,NFT,Vertical Aeroponic, Kraky 10 Gallon Cukes. and in the good ole soil. I appreciate your knowledge and have to work and travel to Indiana Ohio etc in August. Would love to see your kraky tables in more detail. I think in Texas wher it gets super hot and very cold that Kraky DWC would work best. I do well with all with various crops. I have the land and money its the time to build the farm. Its hard work for sure.
We add acid to bring the PH to 6. but never adjust as the crop progresses. Heck we don't even check it. Good luck on your venture. I will say Suspended pot is not Ideal for hot climates. Deep water culture with air stones would work better. Above 65F water temp the plants can suffer oxygen issues.
Suspended pot will be difficult if your climate gets hot. It works best if the nutrient can stay below 65F. I would suggest floating raft with air stones as an alternative.
Well explained and very helpful. Q1.what is your seeding schedule? Q2. can you make a video on how you store the produce in your cooler(tips). Thanks in advance :)
