Hey. Sorry for joining in late. But this is brilliant. The poetry of the road and its passing and roaming souls, captured in the back of a car on some parking somewhere sometime ago. Your performance transported me in my years of devouring Kerouac, Bukowski and alike. You two look beautiful people, simple and true. My favorite kind o_0 This is so far my 2nd favourite version of that song, after Paul Newman’s. Thank you for this gem. I wish the very best to the two of you!
Wonderful stuff, you two!!! This song has been stuck in my head for weeks at a time, and your lovely rendition is so...perfect. And the video is heart-warming and a little bizarre...in a good way. Makes me wonder. I re-discovered this song while re-watching Cool Hand Luke recently, and happened to receive a banjo as a gift around the same time--and partly because of your song, having shared your video with several people. I'm pretty much a beginner, though I've been tinkering with finger-picking on my guitar for a while now. I'm wondering if you can tell me a bit about how you arranged this, please. What Key you're in, the harmonies, any special choices you made, little secrets that make it so great. I don't know much about musical terms, so...this would be a great way to learn my first song, with your support/suggestions. If you'd be so kind :)
I don't care if it rains or freezes As long as I got my plastic Jesus Sittin' on the dashboard of my car Going 90, it ain't scary Cause I got the Virgin Mary Sittin' on the dashboard of my car I'm in the back seat sinnin' Jesus up there grinnin' Sittin' on the dashboard of my car Green, white, pink or yellow I don't care cause he's my fellow Sittin' on the dashboard of my car I don't care if it rains or freezes As long as I got my plastic Jesus Sittin' on the dashboard of my car Going 90, it ain't scary Cause I got the Virgin Mary Sittin' on the dashboard of my car I'm in the back seat sinnin' Jesus is up there grinnin' Sittin' on the dashboard of my car
Catchy tune, and you both did it nicely. But in some ways, the song is a bit irreverent toward the Lord, reducing Him to a plastic ornament on the dashboard of a car. But I suppose, if someone really does love Jesus, and walks with Him throughout their lives, and if a plastic model reminds him or her about their dependency and love of the Lord, than it would be a good thing. We wear crosses, and we may put a plastic fish figurine on the bumper of our cars, and we are not being irreverent, just reminding others that they need Christ. God bless
What a wonderful....unappreciated talent.......think.......with a bit of foresight and fone calls.....Justine would be a huge hit in Ireland.....without a doubt !! ....so brilliant !! x
Fabulous version, for all sorts of reasons. Interesting that in spite of the title, so much of it is about the Blessed Virgin. Just one more example of how this song changes, mutates, and evolves, depending on who is singing it, when, and why.
I remember playing this on top of a bunker in Phan Thiet, South Vietnam. Later, I lived in SLC.... old memories being slammed together.... thank you...
I heard this in a folk club back in the late sixties & I’m sure it was the original writer but can’t for the life of me remember his name but i have a slight recollection of the name Chris Rohman, any answers please?
It was probably the Gold Coast Singers! They wrote it and performed it in the 1960's. Great band name, and great songwriters, very clever. There were only two people in the band.
Damn. You guys have great taste. The Mills Brothers? I didn’t know anyone under 65 even had a clue about their brilliance. & If I may, I think you guys could do justice to Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Guy Clark, John Prine, John Hiat, Lucinda Williams, et al…….🙏🎶🎭😎
Back in the mid 1970's..at the Corralle in Loveland, Co..about 8 of us set up in the firewood shed..tom and CB and Michael, and jazz..and a host of others..just a bangn out good songs..this was one of them..We were The Limp Chicken..
I like the choice of black and white, it softens the whole thing and makes it much more universal. I'd go on about road trips and music, but you get the picture.
