Im really glad you done this video. I really wanted to see the motor taken apart to see if there was any difference between the terribly flimsy tsdz2 motor. It seems they have copied much of the bbs02 which should make it more durable. I don't like how they have kept the same torque sensor and method of securing the main gear and shaft with circlips and a bearing either side. They should have used bafangs method of thrust bearings either side and the two locking nuts. This is a much more secure way in my opinion. Thanks fot for the video 👍
As mid-mounted motors, both motors have good capabilities when climbing mountains. According to feedback, the bafang mid-mounted motor has a higher riding feedback when pedaling.
Swiss (possibly EU as well) law requires motors to be clearly labeled and branded in this case with the TSE brand. It's also better for consumers in a world w so many fakes.

Hey there Varstrom. I have just purchased a new ekd01 for my TSDZ8 from yourself via Amazon. Can you please tell me what cable I need to change my 8pin vlcd5 display as all the 1to4 cables have male 8pin but to fit the TSDZ8 I need a female 8pin 1to4 as the cable coming from my motor is a recessed male connection. I'm in the UK if you can help me out at all. 🙏🏼 Thanks
Our 1T4 cable cannot match your motor. Since your motor seems to have a different line sequence than ours, the line sequence of our TSDZ8 has been changed to a female connector. Did you buy your TSDZ8 from Varstrom?

Hi Team, being torque senor motor we don't need gear shift sensor and any break sensors ? I assume that the moment we stop pedaling we can use the breaks and they will not interfere the work of the motor? And also to switch gear we just need to provide a little torque but it would not be enough damage the chain for example? Thanks and keep the good work )))
Hi there, both of your points are correct. The torque sensing motor can be used with or without a brake disconnect wire, but our kit includes a brake disconnect wire。and considering that if the motor is inthrottle mode, the brake motor will still have power when the brake is pressed, for safety and security reasons, I still installed the brake disconnect wire.
Also, your second point is true. But I'm a DIY guy, haha, I like to put everything on my bike and make it a luxury version. The kit does not include a shift sensor, but if the motor is high power such as 1000 watts, it is recommended to install a shift sensor.😄

Hi there. Love you're content & currently waiting for my TSDZ8 to be delivered tomorrow hopefully. I want to ask you if you know would I be able to use my "ebike" UKC1 display with the TSDZ8 as the kit I bought comes with the vlcd5. I have the UKC1 as well as a M6C, kt-lcd8c, kt-lcd7c, sw900. I already have a 1-5 cable & a motor programming cable if I'm going to need it. I just realised that a few of your videos that you have "ebike" screen come up when you first turn on the display. Hence my asking about the UKC1 I have. Thank again & I appreciate any help or advice. 🙏🏻👍🏼
Hello friend, regarding the use of ukcd1, you need to check whether the connection line between the instrument and the TSDZ8 controller matches, then check whether the order of the pins matches, and finally check whether it complies with the Tongsheng protocol.
Hello friend, it depends on whether the diameter of the bottom bracket of your car is suitable for this motor.I am planning a video on how to determine if your bike is suitable for the motor. I will send you the link when it is finished.
Im currently waiting for my TSDZ8 to get to the UK from DHL Germany & its going on a very rare full suspension frame with a 52v 20ah triangle battery thst just fits in the frame ive chose & it is also having a 250w rear wheel hub motor with a 36v bottle battery for backup purposes lol I also have a number of displays that im hoping to be able to use at some point with the TSDZ8. I have a KT-LCD3, kt-lcd7c, M6C, sw900 & also a UKC1. Will i be able to use any along with my 1-5 cable with waterproof Juliet connectors. Thanks for the great videos too.
@@varstromebikeconversion5837 I wish I was lol I only got into "DIY" ebikes a few months ago after having various genetic ones like Haibike, KTM fogo etc. Then built a Trek X-cal Gary Fisher Edition 29er with 2000w rear hub motor & sabvoton controller etc. Now I'm building a full suspension e-bike with a (BeOne Hornet Plus) full suspension frame. As for the stuff I have ..... I always tell the Mrs that it's better to have it & not need it than to need it & not have it. 🤣 Hence if I see any decent bargains then I buy it for the sake of having it. Lol The good news is that my TSDZ8 has just arrived literally 5mins ago, so this will be my first ever video. 🤞🏼 Thanks again & keep up the awesome content. 👍🏼🙏🏻
In fact, it's not better all around, and you can check out the follow-up video I've already uploaded. The TSDZ8 is currently cheaper and I think the TSDZ8 would be better if you only consider the product level. Of course, the TSDZ8 doesn't give the kind of ample instant power that the BBS02B does.
Thank for your video ! Is it possible to make a video for mouting this BBS02 on a bike using a shimano press-fit bottom bracket ? This one used a BSA standard bracket, sometime the press-fit use a different diamater of bottom bracket, so we don't know if we have to put a specific ring adaptor, or not ?! what tools we need ? how to do ? etc ... Mayb a video can explaining more details for us, this can be a good idea Maybe a video about issue of chainring in some bike too, how to calibrate the chainring correctly, how to adapt desalignment etc ... For exemple, for my bike the 44T is too close of the body of my bike... and the others chainring i can find on internet have random offset, how to know which one is good for us, how to calculate offset we need ?! All this need a great detailed video
Hi there, are you using a press fit centre shaft from a shimano BB92? The inner diameter may be 41-42mm, if so you will need to add a sleeve. Regarding the chainring video, I think I'll make an instalment soon explaining it, including recommendations for currently available chainrings with offsets.
Hi, @@varstromebikeconversion5837 Finnaly, i don't really know if my bottom bracket is pressfit or not ... on the internet I find contradictory information, and on the manufacturer's website I find nothing concrete! probably many variant produt with the same name ?! idk Anyway this video can be a really good idea for sure ! A video explaining what offset we need for what situation can be great too ... for my parts, i think the 44T maybe don't fit on my bike, the theeth of the chainring probably going to hit the body of my bike (or going to be tooooo close to it) and i'm not sure what chainring i have to choose :( So this can be a good idea for helping massive people. i'm waiting your videos ^^
I'm looking for this display, i have somes questions : - How he work in wet time guys, the touchscreen still work or it is unstable with water on it ?? - It is possible to change the 100001 password with a personnal password for advanced setting unlock ? - How we can make a personnalized scheme, how we can change the Varstrom/intelligent Logo and others things ? what's the process to do ?
The fat bike is just one factor, probably you also need to take into account the terrain you are travelling on, your weight, your load capacity, your driving habits (whether you like to keep hitting extreme speeds or enjoying the scenery in a smooth manner). Many times I think 750W is enough, but some people will prefer the punch of 1000W (rated power).
Hi for the scott aspect 960,the BB is the BSA73 and suitable for the mid drive motor, that means you can install both Bafang BBS or Tongsheng TSDZ 2B/8,it depends on your needs.
@@varstromebikeconversion5837 WITCH ONE woul u pick tonsheng or bb for scott aspect im after the 750 bafang use it basicley allround bike bit in the woods and long cruiz bro name the kit i should buy gonna order it let store custumer bike mount it up thats what they told me ;)
Great video. I just had a bike with a Bafang motor stolen and am ready to build a new bike. I still have a couple of batteries from the Bafang. If I get the Tongsheng TSDZ8 can I use the same batteries from the Bafang?
Hi for the batteries from the Bafang,do you mean the Bafang is made by Bafang?if so ,they have their own battery protocols, so it can't be work together
@@varstromebikeconversion5837 Thanks for the reply. I am sorry, I meant a Jumbo Shark battery that works with my Bafang motor. I think i figured out that it would indeed work with Tongsheng too.
I am an early adopter, I bought a TSDZ8 in November 2023. It is a fantastic piece of tech. Most important, main gear compartment size is similar to Bbs02 (smaller than Toseven or TSDZ02B) so it fits more bikes. TSDZ8 group on Facebook has nearly 800 members now, so yes, it gains popularity.
Yes, if I had to choose, I'd go with the TSDZ8, the torque sensor has more advantages than the speed sensor. But the TSDZ8 has a poorly tuned controller, I plan to work out an optimal controller algorithm and test it.
@@varstromebikeconversion5837 Yes, software is not optimized, but it is getting there. I just bought Jlink v9 programmer, but still had no time to play with it. There are several beta firmware versions available on the facebook group. But of someone should provide/develop something like OSF, that would be the best scenario. I mostly use level 2 and 3, have no need for other levels with this firmware.
I like my Bafang 750w and it's been extremely reliable and has a fantastic range of aftermarket parts. Not sure about this yet, need more tests and research for reliability.
Yes, after all, BAFANG BBS has been on sale for almost 6 years, it's certainly a mature product. But it has had very few updates, I wish it could be upgraded for the durability of the hardware inside as well as the waterproofing, unfortunately this can only be done by the dealer. The TSDZ8 is a product that's been on sale for almost 2 years now, and it's going to take a while to be certified in the marketplace. But as far as functionality is concerned, for the same price I'd prefer a torque sensor motor if I could get one (even though TONG SHENG's torque sensor isn't very well tuned, it can be programmed to be modified)
If you are looking for flywheel performance and use a normal chain ring and crank, it can support up to 9 speeds, and once it is larger than 9 speeds, the chain will be at risk of falling off. If you use chain ring and crank with offset, it can support 10 and 11 speeds. 11 speed is the theoretical limit.
Hi, it depends on how you use it and the scenario in which you use it. Scientific usage and low stress usage scenarios will prolong the life of nylon gears. For example, if your cycling habits are aggressive, often accompanied by strong acceleration and deceleration, or if you often need high torque for climbing, the life of the nylon gears will decrease very quickly. I've found customers who have had to replace nylon gears after 500 miles of riding (he's a delivery guy). So there's not really a standard answer to this, but my advice is that having one or even more nylon gears on hand (buying more than one tends to be a better deal) is absolutely right, and my general recommendation is to check them from 1250 miles onwards, but if you don't notice any unusual noises, it's not really a matter of special concern.
Hello 👋 I want to buy TSDZ8. I am based in Thailand for delivery & i contact your customer service with sone questions but do not receive any useful response? How can i purchase this from you and which country would the item be delivered from. Sorry for contacting you via YT but i have no other option to resolve the purchase.
Yes, it's every customer's desire to get a product that combines low price, stability, comfort, high performance and high quality, but at the same time it's hard to have it all. In my opinion, the quality and construction of the internal parts of both the BBS and TSDZ8 are in the middle of the range, away from the high or top level, which means you need more frequent regular maintenance. Adding grease is a must, followed by regular replacement of failed fittings, depending on how often you use it, the frequency might be 6 months if you are an outfitter, or typically 1-3 years for normal use.
Of course you can, if you have batteries, or have a preferred battery supplier, all you need to do is buy the motorkit, which we have on our website: www.varstrom.com, and for youtube followers, we have an additional offer, just contact our customer service to claim it.
Yes, this requires the use of OSF, which is in what I plan to make a video about, I'm waiting for this cable to arrive and will then make an instalment of the video. I'll let you know once the video is updated.

is the Varstrom your shop or just the same name? I do not see any links to it here so just asking. Also if it is, do you ship tsdz8 with the newest firmware?
Hi, sorry for the delay, we expect to release it within the week. Regarding the Toseven, we will be purchasing one as soon as possible and expect to release a comparison video in June.
That's definitely a good suggestion, as far as I know TSDZ8 has not developed a motor that adapts to the BB 92mm and can't be solved with shims, I'll check with TONGSHENG to make sure that they are going to do it in the future.
@@varstromebikeconversion5837 thank you for your reply. I found solution, I designed the adapter and it was cut from stainless steel, it works great. I can enjoy the tsdz8 on my bike
@@hlkification I'm sorry, I can't believe I forgot that you can DIY the centre shaft! Yes, DIY can spark a lot of creativity and inspiration, I'm guessing you extended the motor centre shaft, right?
