Totally agree. all brute force and ignorance. Did nobody preserve the steel, candy twist overall rear chains to fit the Scammell? Real beasts to handle and fit but the traction is unbelievable. Basic REME Recovery Manual calculations and reading the metal collars that state the breaking strain could avoid dangerous failure of under rated tow ropes too.
Why are not the rear axles "locked" and spinning when the front axle is spinning? My circa 1967 US Army Deuce in Vietnam had a lock up selector that would lock all 6 wheels, combined with the low range low gear for amazing crawling.
The Dinky Toy model of that still resides in my collection, must have been around 1958-9 it was described as a Tank Recovery Vehicle to go with my Centurion Tank and Transporter (still got those too! Those are tyres that will have an almost impossible job of supplying traction in those conditions first time.
Trying to get out of the hole the Scammell was 6x3 or 6x4 at best, diff locks would have made a big difference, but he got clear in the end, well done.
Hey Steve, how did you refil the gas reservoir? Also does the adjustment knob on your gas reservoir works? Suggestions for if it stops working and the shocker turns too soft?
GO ON GIRL!!!! Happy memories of my old explorer i had to sell back in 1994 when my business went bust. 😪 i think he needs different tyres on that or new ones! Like mine not much tread left of the old sand tyres! Proper job though she got out!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😂👍🏻🇬🇧
if you don't first succeed then try and try again, and i've only seen three of these amazing power machines two was back in the 60s at an army show and the other one in the 90s at at a recovery firm.
friends dad had one of these called big Boris could pull what we gave it to pull and more! sad thing was it blew the crank in england and had to be left there pity! it was a monster !!!
Yeah , thank you for your helpful comments Terry, but when in 3 foot deep water the ends of the fan dip in the water and like a paddle wheel dump buckets of water over the distributor. When this happens it's a bit beyond WD40, try emptying a bucket of water over your dizzy.
Good to see the old Bedfords playing in the mud. My grandfather used to make the transmissions & axles at the factory, during the war churchill tanks and military trucks was his contribution to hitler's downfall.
+Chris Parkhurst My Dad was in the BEF, Dunkirk and back again in 1944 at D Day in an office bodied QL in which he chased about Northern France , ending up in Holland during his time in the RASC. So he was THERE. He was desperate for Britain to be in what was then called ' The Common Market' and never forgave General DeGaulle for blocking Britains admission into what was then 'The six'. I voted to go in in 1975.
Excellent video of one of the best weekends I've had on an off-road bike. That's me entering the water at 1:40, scary stuff....lol. Well done to everyone for making it through...
I hope we all had a great time, we seemed to gell as a group, I'm glad I had the opportunity to take this clip. It takes so long to get your gloves off and camera out that everyone's gone!
