Really enjoyed watching this ! I have some old rallies from the 60's from Scottyland on VHS tape that was from 8mm film. Need to get them on DVD plus I have the making of a Scotty 13ft. 1961 from the factory in Irwin, Pa. John Serro filmed with his 8mm on VHS. You can see me on the history of Serro Scotty to on RU-vid here.
I was following the Grateful Dead around at this time. The first show back after the quake they played this, out of nowhere. Never played it before, played it once after this... California earthquake you just don't know what you've done We may fall off in the ocean, but you'll never make us run You're a partner to the devil, but we ain't afraid of him We'll build ourselves another town so you can tear it down again ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1_kXr4sjIPU.html
On this day I was hanging a fire sprinkler system on the 4th floor of a 5-story building under construction in Fremont. Instead of working until 6pm like we'd been doing, we left early at 4:45pm to watch the World Series. The earthquake hit at 5:05pm and the next day we drove to the job site to see that all the scaffolding we'd been working on had fallen to the ground. So, it's possible that the World Series saved our lives. - Great video!
I was a freshman in college and remember turning on the dorm floor tv to watch the game. Al Michaels was speaking and then things shook and at first it didn’t seem to bad but got worse the darker it became. It was bad.
Too bad that the earthquake had to occur during the World Series. If it had occurred one week later, the Series would've been over. Maybe the Giants would've won in 6 or 7 games. This was the only World Series that Oakland won during the time period of 1988-1990. The Dodgers won 4-1 in 1988, and Cincinnati swept Oakland in 1990.
My parents and I were watching from the vantage of our white living room sofa...we were gobsmacked. I regret to say I was just as concerned about when/ where the rest of the series would be played as I ws damage from the earthquake
I was playing in the backyard sand box with my brother when the quake hit. It lifted our red rider wagon, which was full of water, up off the ground over us like a tidal wave. I'll never forget it.
I was sitting on my couch in the living room of my apartment approximately 2500 miles away in New York City, watching the events unfold on my 19 inch Panasonic color TV. Back then there was no such thing as a High Def Flat Screen 75 inch smart television.
I remember talking about the game at school and being excited to go home and see it. I told my parents they needed to turn the news off. It took about 5 minutes before I realized the game was displaced by the news.
Image telling someone 30 years later, the A’s were leaving while the Giants would be in one of the best ballparks and would win 3 WS in just a 5 year stretch
I live in minnesota but had an uncle that lived in San Francisco. I was watching the pregame and heard al michaels announce that they were having an earthquake and ran down the stairs to let my mom know. About 3 hours later he called to let us know he was alright
This is amazing personal footage. I remember being upset at the Giants because they beat the Cubs in the NLCS, I was 7, not to mention the 49ers beat the Bears In January of 1989 at Soldier Field in the 1988 NFC Championship Game. I had no idea at the time how serious the quake was.
@@Robsay01 Yeah, I remember that 1988 nfc championship game, first week of January 1989. The week before was the legendary fog bowl at Soldier Field, Bears vs Eagles-the weather was quite balmy, unusually warm when the fog came in. I remember my dad saying that SF would struggle in the freezing weather the next week, but they Niners were on fire. After the 49ers won super bowl xxlll my dads cousin in San Francisco sent us the sports section from the SF Examiner, still have it.
I was 9 years old at the time. Was watching the pregame and I went up to use the bathroom. When I got back to the TV, there was an episode of Rosanne on. I had no idea what happened until a special report came on about 10 minutes later.
