The Pyranese mountains certainly come to mind, I'd expect fierce resistance to whoever was defending the mountain passes. I'm not sure how well tanks could traverse such terrain, probably not at all in 1940

I like Germany vs. France without the intention of taking it, to allow Italy capturing France. Germany has nearly enough starting units to take UK or Leningrad even if UK or Leningrad puts more than 12-20 infantry on. Germany needs close to 16 transports for its starting units plus some navy defense/bombardment. Germany should have enough starting navy and planes to take the waters; dont use any German planes in France. If Germany holds money round one, Germany will have enough money to build a large navy all at once. Germany has to keep their planes positioned to attack either Leningrad, UK, or perhaps participate in the sea. Dont be afraid to loose some planes in the land battle, its more important to actually land. First move, let Italy take France. Itll give Italy more money for the capture + steady income. That extra money that can be used to expand. It will make the difference. I think of Germany as capital hunter that is willing to destroy itself because Italy is defending the home by expanding and securing the south resources. In theory, Germany will have lost most of its stuff pieces trying to land on UK or Leningrad. For a moment, it will seem that only Italy is on the board. Germany will have destroyed alot of its starting units in the amphibious and Italy will keep everything secure until Germany can build using captured money. Germany into France battle round one: (I think the math is right for this example but in general this is how how I calculate) 8 units @ 1/6 = 1.33 expected hit 3 units @ 3/6 = 1.5 expected hit 2.8 expected hit total, I generally round down because I dont want to build luck here into the strategy France starts with 7 units @ 2/6 = 2.33 1 tank @ 3/6 = .5 1 fighter @ 4/6 = .66 Expected hit is 3.496 or I tend to round up to 4; I tend to build luck here into the strategy. >> Continued fighting Germany into France and the 3 tanks still do 1.5 expected hit. After loosing four units, there are Four @ 1/6 = .66 2.1 total. Round to 2 France would probably loose a AAA gun and have Six @ 2/6 = 2 tank = .5 Fighter = .66 3.1 and it would be extremely lucky to get 4. >> Run this again. But really the idea is for Germany to weaken France enough that Italy can take it. ___ Let the German player focus clearing the waters and repositioning everything to purchase 12-16 transports and some defensive navy to land everything they start with into either UK or Leningrad.

Great analysis of a hole in the rules. Kudos to the Axis players findjng this strategy, as clearly this strategy did not come up in playtesting or it would have been fixed. The only ships that should be allowed in or out are those of the Black Sea nations not at war. Great video.

Panzer J - I agree with you. I also saw these flaws in the last two games. V4.2 really needs to address these rule flaws. I favor an updated/special rule for the Turkish Straights to be that only Neutral Nations that have boarders with the black sea can pass through with naval units (Bulgaria, Romania, USSR, and Turkey only). Also, another rule change is that if Italy places units in French Home territories at any time during the game (whether they be France, Free France, or Vichy France) it is a declaration of war against the Allies. My 2 cents.

I think the solution to the Turkish straits is either to say USSR considers any military unit moving through the neutral straights a declaration of war, or as you said, just say only Russian units (and LL) may pass.

So how does Italy, who is at war with nobody move units in the combat movement phase without declaring war first? If Italy is moving units during the combat movement phase then they are basically at war and therefore not allowed to pass thru a straight that is closed to nations at war! If Italy lend leases to another Axis power then the Allies may declare war, but not if Italy moves units into another Axis powers controlled territory? Oh the humanity!! There probably is a fix to the rules here somewhere.

See I agree with Italian troops in France. The allies can't attack France if theirs Italian military units their. Hmmm no man the US/UK would not have cared. That needs to be house ruled super fast. Best game recap in history. Laughing almost the whole time. Your great. 1939 is calling you back!!

I think a good fix may be that putting Italian ships in a sea zone with Soviet ships in the Black Sea, is the same as them declaring war, that way they can still try some stuff, but they have to overpower your fleet and also can’t stay neutral. That or just block the straits, but that would block Soviet ships too

Really sad the games over already mate! Felt it only was only just getting going 😔 I hope I don’t have to wait years again to see you do the USSR.. Not quite how I envisioned this game would play out though.. definitely need to sort out that them issues with the rules. Hopefully one day the red army with get its chance to enter the capital of the Reich 😉

11:44 You cannot rail the major factory from Orel-Kursk to Leningrad because you didn't hold the territories you rail through at the start of the turn. 11.2 "You have to Possess a land zone since the beginning of the Player Turn before you can Strategic Rail move into the zone."

Back in the day in the 1st A&A game me and my friends always had different ship rules were ships can dock on land/islands. Moves were 1 or 2 sea zones with one load or unload, or one seazone with a load and unload. This will give a whole new dimesnsion to sea war in particular the Pacific and Atlantic. Also bomber raids could attack naval docked units similar(ish) as attacking factories. For example a German bomber with 6 moves could from France move over north sea (move1), then attack UK naval 3 times (move 2 3 & 4) and in move 5 & 6 move back to France. Fighters can also base on islands, but since they have 4 moves cannot attack an island one zone over as it would require 6 moves to fly back and forth. This way carriers get another dimension too.

I agree with you Panzer J 😕 the Italian rule that gives them immunity from allied attack if you declare war seems abit unfair.. Definitely a rule that needs to be rethought.. Having said that don’t give up yet comrade! You managed to undo a fair amount of the damage done by the axis already and if anyone can turn the game back around from here and reach Berlin, it’s you ✊ View it as the ultimate challenge 😎

So unlucky the whole state assets are in gold kept in the kings bedroom just like in 1970s version of Robin Hood :) Oh and they teleport out too, no need to supply a taken capital. At least the treaty from 1936 concerning the Turkish Straits (still valid today 2024 affacting the War Russia-Ukraine) has ben cancelled in game.

Lol all the gold has been sacked and taken away. At least for a turn. Yes the Turkish Straits restrictions are in place but not in this game. With that logic Axis warships should be able to park on the coast of the United States without the US considering it an act of war. Monroe Doctrine??? Who cares let those ships get right up close to Washington

Man that Blitz hit hard. Glad you were able to erase most of the Axis gains in Russia. That Italian neutrality rule is a real issue with the game as the your guy's last two games are showing..

Thank you. I have no chance in this game but as long as I can help the Allies win and prevent another garbage Axis victory its all good. You are exactly right with that bulls**t rule that Italy can come through the Turkish straits and then either land in Russian territory or Russia stops them from coming through by declaring war on them. So basically you are screwed no matter what you do. If you declare war to prevent them from entering the black sea then Italy has immunity from Allied attacks all game and just does whatever they want. If you let them in then you lose territories and then german can use that captured territory to reach parts of Russia like Moscow that they wouldn't be able to get to. So you are rights it's wrecked 2 games in a row. Not to mention that Turkey didn't allow that so it's not even realistic that it could happen. It didn't happen and it wouldn't have happened but in this game they think it's a good component. Honestly this will be my last Global 36 game until either the game designer changes that rule or if the people I'm playing with agree before the game that isn't allowed to happen

@CobraWargaming @poeraven6044 @shaneoace5649 You nailed it Cobra. If the Germans can use Blitzkrieg on the USSR, terrible things are going to happen. That's the key here. The ability of the Italians to enter the Black Sea while neutral wasn't the root cause because if Italy had rolled one higher for their tech roll on their turn, they would have had Long-Range Aircraft. With LRA, the Italians didn't need a naval transport to enter the Black Sea. An airborne infantry could have been dropped in Donets-Kuban from Tobruk, with the air transport landing in Western Ukraine. So poor Panzer J was in a precarious position due to the Germans having *Blitzkrieg*. He didn't defend Moscow with enough, given the magnitude of the risk. If Germany didn't have Blitzkrieg, the Italians moving into the Black Sea wouldn't have mattered at all. I hope people in the community learn that the real lesson from Casino Royale isn't anything about the Black Sea, but instead is about the importance of France forcing Germany to use Blitzkrieg. I would argue that should be France's #1 priority!

If you look in the glossary for "Full Production," it says, "For USSR, the current Full Production income is the total of all currently possessed, Originally possessed land zones." So when you rolled that 12, you hit full production and you can collect for Mongolia and Northern Manchuria. I have USSR with 53 in the bank and 48 on the production chart.

Are Russian units able to share space (Suiyuan?) with the CCP before the CCP evolves to a major power? If so, is KMT barred from sharing space with FEC (or America) until evolved to a major power?

Until you reach 46, USSR only collects for annexed territories. So you don't yet collect for Mongolia. Sorry!

Panzer J is such a backstabber! He broke the treaty with the poor KMT, then goes HAM on Japan, and he even declared war on the easy-going Germans!!! I too had Suiyuan with only 2 infantry for Japan.

"The Baltic-White Sea Canal connects Leningrad with the White Sea. The canal may be used to non-combat move one submarine per Player Turn between sea zone A14 and sea zone A9 (in either direction). The submarine must start its move in either sea zone A9 or A14, and it expends its full movement (including any bonuses) to make the move." So only 1 submarine can make the move to A9 this turn.
