@@phrababushkath2350 Oh well, the listener is unable to tell the relation of the notes - what relevant is burred and overpowered by the useless size and inaccuracy of the choir. sounds like shouting at some points - 1:40 is a joke.
I also think so, in the case of old recordings - Richter, Rilling, and many of those modern conductors who mainly conducts romantic music(I won't call them a romantic conductor, modern way of performing is not from romantic era). But in this video I feel something extraordinary. It is an effective way to separate ripienists and concertists... Of course NBS did it better, but I think it's still rather interesting. The mass choir sounds totally different from soloists!
This is remarkable: ad hoc amateur choir and orchestra in one of the most difficult pieces of Bach to bring off. The 'big choir' approach works well (it usually doesn't with Bach). I particularly like the interplay soloists/choir, the wu-wu of the choir in the second half and the hallelujah shout near the end (nobody else does either of these). AND..... it's not too fast. It's always moving to see a youth choir give their all (see Riga Cathedral commons choir do Handel for more of this). Bravo!
Ich habe mir einige Aufnahmen dieser Kantate durchgehört, aber bei keiner erreichte das Werk eine dramatische Dreidimensionalität wie bei dieser Aufnahme. Das gegenseitige Ball zuspielen hat mich an etwas an die Matthäuspassion erinnert. Chapeau!
