A very quick match actually. 3 "long" sets (7:5, 7:6, 7:6) and they took less than 2 hours to play them. Both were rushing between points. Especially Rusedski hardly took more than 10 seconds between service points. No permanent toweling off as it is normal today. Today's players could learn from that.
How did some spectators who sat on the left side were able to see the match with those support columns in the way? Why was the stadium designed that way?
yeeeessss thank you so much, i never seen this match, i am french, i chek many time on the net,you tube ect...for watch all the match!impossible:i wait since 1991!!and now i can see!thank you so much!!a great moment for french player!!Leconte amazing for this final!historic!
Remember Bastl was ranked 145, and a lucky loser! Which makes this the greatest upset in Wimbledon history. Sampras never came back the following year to bid farewell in style, perhaps because he was too upset with All England Club for scheduling 7 time champion to court 2. Such as sad way to end such a remarkable grass court run.
Thank you so much for uploading this match @Samprasfan1987. I supported Pete during most of his career but during that final I was rooting for the French, a bunch of players / guys whom I liked very much... and, to that day, Henri played one of the most amazing matches that I have ever seen, if not the most.
It's funny reading all these comments about todays tennis being boring and only baseline play. Many people seem to forget that 30 years ago there was a lot of debate about there being no longer rallies and it was all about hitting service-aces. That's why they changed the courts and the tennisballs, remember? I do agree. Tennis back then was more varied ,and exciting, compared to today.
I agree that there was a serious lack of rallies back then and that's why they changed the courts, the balls, the racquets. But they took it too far and fully eliminated serve and volley playstyle which should never have happened. I hope it'd be corrected in the future when people will get bored of constant rallies
One of the greatest performances by anyone in a GS title is by Edbergs's in USO 92 title defence. 5 setters against Krajicek, Lendl, Chang and then 4 setter against Sampras. Supreme fighting spirit and endurance by a silky smooth soft player.
