Finnish Retro Guy's Commodore 64 Zone "LOAD" Channel started: 28th February 2022
Motto: "Sometimes a bad game can be a very entertaining and good video. On the other hand, making a boring video of a great famous game is easier, than making a good, entertaining video."
Goals: 1) Document C64-games in form of a video for next generations 2) To share pokes, cheats, tips and tricks you can do in C64-games 3) Encourage others to share their pokes, cheats and feedback in comments 4) Help keeping C64-hobby alive for myself, and hopefully other enthusiasts around the world 5) Bring colorful, entertaining, totally non-political videos to anyone looking for something positive to watch
IN LONG RUN: hopefully be able to unite people interested in classic games around the world!
I frequently found myself going for a round of Supacatchatroopa throughout all the years I had the C64. It had this eery vibe of being part of a much larger world with the pterosaurs in there 👌
Pretty similar 2 games, not sure why was 87 version needed, it doesnt seem to bring anything new to the gameplay or design. But, are there more levels or just this one?
There are more levels, but still quite similar they are. In Atari version you can select from which level to start. In Ocean version you go to the beginning after game over.
Yes, the two games have those differences as well. Coloring, graphics, sounds, all different really, except the story line, which is same. I find these cases quite fascinating from coding point of view. One and same story results in two very different games.
The C64, Atari ST, and Amiga, were to me, the absolute golden days of home computer gaming. I would include the Sinclair ZX Spectrum in that list too. We, of a certain age, didn't realize how bloody good we had it.
Owned it. Was a shitty game. No learning curve. Too hard straight off the bat. Awful design. And somehow this has high scores on Lemon64. Deserves to be among the 100 worst games list for it. Technically, it looks good though.
It's a Knockout was real. It was a TV show where teams in crazy foam outfits competed against each other in silly games. The international version was called Jeux sans frontières and had teams from various countries. As far as I can tell Finland never took part.
OK, thanks for the additional info! I never knew of such TV show, but did play this game quite often. Interesting, I always wondered from where the idea for a game like this comes from.
Thanks! Funny, that's exactly what I promised myself when I started making these videos. Each video should increase awareness of either less known C64 games, or at least I should have something new to say/show in case the video is about a game well known.
I was a huge pirate, but I never had any of those. The only Missile Command clone I had on the C64 was Red Alert, which was a type-in game from one of the magazines. I downloaded it from a BBS, I didn't type it in myself. Actually, i have a weird memory about this game. I had an Atari trackball, which had both joystick and trackball modes. For some reason, I remember Red Alert working with it in Trackball mode. However, I once tracked down a copy of the magazine that it was in, and the article doesn't say anything about it supporting the Atari trackball. Maybe I downloaded a modified copy? It did work with joystick as well.
The street sports series were all great to play, personally I enjoyed the baseball most (in two player mode preferred but had to play against computer most of the time). Basketball indeed was probably the best in the series. There isn't much of a modern equivalent of the street sports series with that backyard charm and sloppy individual characters is there?
Meh, never heard of any of those, but I played something similar on a PC. It was a SVGA era, so it looked better than these. Missile Defense is expectedly technically superior, but they are all very same in essence.
Oh, interesting! Seems outside Italy the film was published with the title "Deep Red". Not sure if I have seen it or not, my friend used to be a big fan of Argento movies and also I had a chance to watch some of them.
Back in the 80s, I used to call the company Crapcom for their terrible home ports. Yes, they put out some good games, but a lot of the home ports of their games were terrible. I did like the US version of Street Fighter though. It wasn't great, but I thought the graphics were nice.
Both versions was a valiant attempt tbf. But it was always going to be a huge ask to replicate the arcade game on the C64, particularly given tight deadlines back then. I can understand the reasons for both approaches, which meant sacrificing different aspects. Packaging both games together as a single release was at least a nice consideration for the C64 gamers, giving slightly better vfm. Somewhat of a damage limitations exercise. It's still better than the two terrible versions of Double Dragon, which were released separately by different publishers.
Music was great. I am one of those people who actually liked the game, solved it as well as a kid, found "Mr. Big". I had to keep my C64 powered on for many days to make it happen, as there was no save-option, as in modern games. Good memories!
@@finnishretroguy9952 Funny, I've just finished watching "The Glades" ep. on TV some 30 minutes ago. 😉 But you're right, many C64 games did not have the save option unfortunatelly. Not sure if it's now possible with the modern Emulators like Vice or Denise.
Too tough! I only know I played game 2 more than I have the rest, though I certainly recognise some others. At least they seem like games I would have enjoyed, because of atmosphere. The Egyptian themed one seems interesting, I know I tried it on emulator, never had it on original though.
