To all the guys who think that this is THE way to propose, please pay attention to your SO's preference. Not all girls like this sort of proposal and if not done right, she will flat out say no. I'm not saying public proposals are bad but be careful and only do it if you know 100% that she will say yes no matter what you do. She may want to keep all relationship matters private, as it should be anyway. Keep it simple but make it unique to the relationship. It doesn't HAVE to be grand and lavish unless you know that she loves public attention from random strangers. Public proposals should NEVER be a surprise and is just a way of formalising the whole thing. If she is still uncertain about the relationship, don't put her on a spot and manipulate her into saying yes just because there are hundreds of people around. That's a dick move. But congratulations to this couple because it was done perfectly and is a good example of a public proposal done right.
not everyone has to say yes but it is undoubtedly a romantic gesture for sure. It shows a lot they have a lot of value for their significant partner. Especially in this world where romanticism is seen as boring and traditional, those who value it will respect it and if it is right, will say yes. So no, I don't agree with what you said.
