All this known stuff of Schumann are really, boring. The only outstanding thing he wrote was Op 56, and Gesänge der Frühe op 133, he knew that, before he died he still discussed the op 133 with his editor.

I knew the TV character, movie, and voice actor William Schallert in the 1980s. He once told me that, as a UCLA student and where Schoenberg was a professor, he was the narrator at the 1949 performance for the composer's 75th birthday. Schallert assumed that I was unfamiliar with the Ode, but since I already was a long time fan of the piece, I made him smile by responding to his his story--in swooping sprechstimme--"Thanks for that Lesson."
Henecrethethaw, Der Nachtseite... Hejnaktetecejeq- der Lunar Planet in Pictish und P.I.E.....
I have been listening to Liszt's Vallee d'Obermann for more than 30 years with Horowitz. It's still a stroke of genius that I can't understand. Only Horowitz can infuse the work with the poetry and demonicity it requires. I still don't understand how he is able to play the piece with such unheard of depth and fierce energy. Maybe that's a good thing.
Well, no one mentions the absolutely horrible piano! The fact that it relentlessy "double strikes" which destroyd the whole performance for me. He plays beautifully aling thr way, a great pianist. But there is much to criticize and question as well. Oh well!
I haven't listened to this performance in a while; Whoa, this just hit me between the eyes and my heart, and reminds me of why I love Beethoven with all my heart. Plus, the supreme Maestro Toscanini rounds out brings all the majesty and tragedy of this music. I think the "Eroica" is my favorite Beethoven symphony, with the 5th, 9th, and 7th following. Thank you for this download. This is MUSIC. Beethoven and Toscanini reign supreme.
For my money, Horowitz owns the Scriabin Etude Op. 2 No. 1. The breadth and depth of expression he brings forth here is uniquely compelling. For all those who say that Horowitz was "just a showman," this Scriabin Etude performance shows how sensitive a musician Horowitz was.
Fede: Mondo boia!!!!
Wonderfully nuanced performance with passages and peddling that only he could achieve. Hearing this performance for the first time now in 2024, I was two yrs old in 1951. I heard him in Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor MI in the late 70’s.
Come on! More colorful beautiful piano sound than Horowitz=Wilhelm Kempff Emil Gilels Radu Lupu Artur Rubinstein Vladimir Ashkenazy Grigory Sokolov! More genius than Horowitz=Sviatoslav Richter Solomon Cutner Grigory Sokolov Maurizio Pollini! More powerful louder than Horowitz=Mikhail Pletnev( Prokofiev piano concerto no 1 by Pletnev!) The Second Loudest was Lazar Berman! The 3rd Loudest was Erwin Nyiregyhazi!
I don’t usually enjoy Horowitz performance since it’s usually quite fast and colorless but I think that everyone would have to agree on how great he did on this piece. And Kabalevsky, such an underestimated composer. His music is full of colors and reflect a perfect and perfection complexity. Thanks for sharing this !!
