My name is Bryan, The Rum Champion. I host rum education events throughout California.
Having tasted more than 1,400 rums from 78 countries and collected 640+ bottles, I have turned my love and obsession with rum into a full-time career. I've founded The Rum Curious Club, one of the largest rum clubs in America.
Rum is the world's most diverse and also the most underappreciated spirit.
I read a story somewhere about a sailor being given the option of ex amount of lashes or having his grog ration stopped for ex amount of weeks. He opted for the lashes.
The Bible contains several passages that mention drinking alcohol in a context that suggests it is acceptable, particularly when done in moderation or as part of a celebration. Here are a few examples: Psalm 104:14-15: He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate-bringing forth food from the earth: wine that gladdens human hearts, oil to make their faces shine, and bread that sustains their hearts." Ecclesiastes 9:7: Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for God has already approved what you do. John 2:1-11: Jesus turned water into wine in celebration. Thank you for playing though.
There was Pusser's before your Black Tot commercial. ''Pusser'' is a corruption of Pursor, the officer in charge of ship's supplies and finances. My favorite was Lamb's Navy Rum. A friend used to work for British Airways, and would visit my family annually in Tucson. He and his wife would each buy a liter at the duty-free shop at Heathrow and present it to me. I got to be quite the Rum connoissuer. Sadly, one day Captain Morgan usurped Lamb's slot in the D/F shops. Not interested in underproof, artificially flavored rum for college girls. Also he retired and the free flights stopped. Lamb's isn't sold in CONUS. OBTW Antigua is pronounced 'Ahn-TEE-ga' by the Locals. No W sound. IDKY.
Black tot commercial? And very familiar with Pussers. I have multiple bottles of theirs including Deptford Dock Yard! It’s a shame their 151 isn’t available in the US. Hopefully someday!
@@therumchampion Bacardi stopped making their 151. Too many liability suits from parents of dumb college girls who burned their faces trying to drink flaming rum. I may still have a gill or so left. Enough to fill a pistol bottle.
I work at a supermarket call Distribution Service Limited ( DSL ) and its a part of Demerara Distillers Limited ( DDL ). I've never tasted the Rum but i can tell you its the one that sells the most
Good stuff! I’m new to this channel and am thoroughly enjoying the rum nerdiness, information, knowledge, etc.! Keep up the great work and I look forward to your new content! Cheers! (As I’m drinking a Shrunken Skull)
The addition of the lime not only helped to eliminate scurvy, which is caused by a lack of vitamin C, but also led to the racists reference of calling British people "Limey's" as the British sailors were always seen sucking on the lime while enjoying their daily Tot. Sorry about that.
I refuse any contract that doesnt honor my irish american us navy orphan right to 8pints Guinness per day, a pint of burgundy and a half pint of whatever liquor is strong enough to kill athletes foot when i piss on me feet.
The history of the world is full of absolutely wild stories. It gets even wilder when they add rum to it. ore videos like this please. I pronounce it without the "H". Homage. I feel like i saw this particular bottle once in Canada for around 799 - 1,000. Maybe i mixed it up with a different Black Tot in a wood case. Good stuff good sir, cheers.
The best history is rum history. Sadly all of it has fallen by the wayside. Fortunately so many people have begun talking about it and Black Tot started it all!
I've said this about multiple bottles. What's crazy is that I bring them home, and it will be months before I actually open it. I'm still gonna buy it.
My wife and I tried this tonight in a blind tasting. I can see the similarities. The Terroir Volcanique does offer a lot of the same notes on the nose in particular that you get from bourbon. Ultimately, my wife and I both identified the Heaven Hill and the Terroir Volcanique correctly. I think the finish on these is the easiest way to unmistakably tell these apart. I'm curious to hear others' experience.
I have no doubt Worthy Park produce enough molasses to supply demand. They harvest so much sugarcane that they also supply the entire island of Jamaica with cane sugar too. I think demerara sugar has been in the spotlight for cane sugar too long, give worthy park cane sugar a try.
lol I’m not wrong. Appleton & Wray and Nephew are owned by Campari, a foreign company. They were purchased on September 3, 2012 for $400+Mz They are also importing their molasses. Don’t believe me go ask them.
Many distilleries in the Caribbean are importing from a combination of many countries, including Brazil, Nicaragua, and Fiji. I think there may be a couple others as well.
Hampden is great 👍🏻 they’re Jamaican owned and I have so many of their bottles. they are importing their molasses like the other 5 Jamaican distillers 😋
puncheon is for the trinidad and tobago people its our rum not to be shared with outsiders its pure fire in a bottle that takes u where u heading real quick
