Good video. To be a bit more specific, Cahokia Mounds is not located in the city of Cahokia, IL. It is right on the edge of Collinsville (the Kahoks! - home of the fictitious Kahok Native American tribe). It is definitely worth the time to visit Cahokia Mounds if want to learn about our history.

Such a rich history...one that I did not even know the origins of, and I am a native Peorian. Glad to see my friend Robert Johnson is the Man in charge of this amazing organization. Thanks for creating this beautiful video narrtative.
I believe Bob might be a relative. I would love to know. My Aunt and Uncle were Carl and Velma Hancher. My name is Patricia Gay, E. Peoria. My Mom was Carl's sister, Ida. I wish I could find out! ❤
Actually, those "four large furnaces" were instead called ovens. They indeed generated the hot air to "blast" into the bottom of the accompanying blast furnace.
I had an ancestor who was captured at champions hill and sent to alton prison camp he was exchanged and after that he went home he was with 12th Arkansas battion sharpshooters
My parents Arvin and Katherine Okus managed the old Nursing home from 1962 to 1963. I was 5 to 6. It was the happiest year of my life. We lived next door to the tavern. The old hotel was at the end of the street. An old bakery was across the street from the hotel. The underground river underneath the hotel gave me the most euphoric feeling all the time. I hated leaving Okawville and moving to Florida. In 1984 while driving across the USA I stumbled upon Okawville one evening. I felt the same exact wonderful feeling I felt as a kid in the early 60's. I would love to go back there for a week or so. Just not during the winter. Well, do any of you locals feel that wonderful feeling from the underground river? If so please tell me. In fact what's Okawville like now in 2024?
There's some Military Officers that are black hanging out in the restaurant that are criminals . Well known for treason but nothing else and being a racist .
When my family were making our memories, the cabins were non existent. No dinner theater, no weddings, no flushing toilets, no showers. We camped, roughed it, and had a blast! A big piece of my heart will forever be at White Pines. Now I live in the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, Mississippi…always remembering the great old times with my dad and brothers.
And not ONE OF THEM are left today. What A SHAME! DID they do any DNA testing on the skeletons found under the mounds? I would like to know what modern-day tribes are related to them.
