Blended vision, also called mono vision. Seamless is a bit over stated and perhaps over selling. Everyone is different as are the outcomes. Thats why its called "practicing medicine".

What would be the drawback for SMILE? Since it shaves off part of corneal tissue? Isn’t that worse than PRK since PRK just takes off the epithelial which grows back naturally?

When it comes to 'the best' LASIK and PRK should not even be in the conversation anymore. SMILE is the best laser surgery and ICL beats it for reversibility and minimizing dry eye. And you want to be able to reverse that procedure. Prescriptions fluctuate and eye lenses invariably develop problems. It's just so much easier if your cornea remains intact.

What about No-Touch PRK / Trans PRK? As far as I have researched, the problems of dry eyes seem to be mostly connected to the LASIK procedure but please correct me if I'm wrong
@RasenRambo23
@RasenRambo23 28 дней назад
@@-Turtl3_ Good question. No-touch PRK is just the PRK without the scraper, so it has the same advantages and disadvantages. Doesn't really change the conversation here much. Dry eye can come from each and any form of eye surgery, be it refractive or (e.g.) glaucoma. It's just that in the case of medical procedures like glaucoma surgery, they are necessary, whereas refractive surgeries are elective and thus the dry eye complication is avoidable. This is really a much more complicated discussion to have than is possible in a RU-vid comment. I would just encourage you to continue researching before making a decision and jumping on this. What I've outlined above still basically holds true. Overall though my recommendation would be to sidestep refractive surgery altogether and try and make contact lenses or glasses work for you.

@@RasenRambo23 Thank you for your reply. I followed your advice and continued researching, especially analyzing some of the documents of Dan Reinstein. According to him, it indeed seems like SMILE is a preferable laser surgery. However, he does work for Carl Zeiss and therefore might have a bias, which we can't know for sure obviously. Also there are other opinions, like from the ELZA institute in Switzerland, which seems to prefer TransRPK with the Schwind Amaris 1050RS. As a non-medical person it can be confusing to come to a solution. I am 25 years old and have a rather mild myopia (-1,5 on both eyes) and astigmatism of -0,75 right and -1,25 left. My eyes are also a bit dry and I can only comfortably use some of the high-end contact lenses such as Acuvue Oasys. It seems like many surgeons are scared to perform SMILE on such mild myopia. However, TransRPK seems to have the disadvantage of damaging the Bowman's layer and therefore reducing the UV-protection of the eyes. Overall I'm still leaning towards SMILE but doing it in an experienced clinic that is able to perform it on low myopia patients. Would you agree with my way of thought and conclusion?

Nonsense ! This is not 100% correct. I found there is no long waiting time to have cataract surgery. Several preop tests / lens calculations are done at the office. Cataract surgery and Monofocal lenses are covered under the health insurance and Medicare ,minus deductibles , and copays but expensive premium multifocal and toric (for astigmatism ) lenses are a out of pocket expense . Medicare pays for one pair of prescription eye glasses or contact lenses after surgery.Your doctor determines when you need cataract surgery ( medically necessary, not reading at the 20/40 line) and when eyeglass prescription lenses won't improve your vision if you have cataracts. To get a more accurate outcome I would suggest paying for an optional tool called ORA system..It's a minimal amount of money to spend to get a more accurate reading. This tool is used in the operating room ,at the time when the cataract is removed.. The ORA laser technology analyzes the refractive power of your eye in real time.This is most critical if you have had LASIK or PRK in the past. Like everything life...do your research and get a second opinion .

IMPORTANT! We can recreate this at home by putting hot pressured water over our closed eyelids (from a shower head) for a few minutes. I have severe dry eyes and before doing what I mentioned, I would use eye drops every 10 minutes or an ointment every 20 minutes. I do this every 24 hours. I need to use drops once every few hours. Alhamdulillah (All praise is to God).

They are using the laser to essentially dissect the cornea making it flap. They peel back the first layer. Use the z laser technology to reshape your cornea. Fold over the flap to the new shaped cornea and it heals in about a week. PRK is a lot different and takes a lot longer to heal. It depends on the thickness of your cornea on which procedure they do
