Thanks! that was fun.....had me using certain inversions and subs i haven't had to use in a while. Even did the Red Garland "closed" voicings too! Very much fun! Thanks for posting!
According to the "bible" (Real Book) Jobims original version is in F. I`ve played always played it in this key, but surely it depends on female or male singing .... which makes a difference. Anyway the F#m shoud be a Gbmaj7
@@barbarawiebeloveontherocks4375 I think that can be said for most songs, musicians will often transpose keys to suit the singer but in the case of The Girl from Ipenema, the question of the key predates any tradition set by the Real Book. The version in the Real Book is indeed in F and this is common practice in today's standards of westernise music, however Jobim wrote the tune in the style of traditional latin jazz from Brazil and from what i've heard, they hold the version in Db in high esteem.
Thanx so much. Great fun trying to make use of inversions when comping on this. Should've dicovered these type videos a lot sooner. Love to learn these seemingly simple jazz blues patterns.. infact they are horrifyingly hard.
Just some thoughts. Blues and jazz very closely realated.. say the jazz chord is C7 #9 or C7#11....That's just the minor third and flat 5 .. just by playing the c blues. C D Eb F GB Bb.. The base player can play the roots or walk the base line.
