NO ONE WILL EVER TAKE HIS PLACE. He was a great humanitarian, father, husband. To this day I watch ALL OF HIS SHOWS. Rest in peace Michael Landon. Your legacy lives on . I would love to play a Trivia quiz about him. I have no doubt that I would Ace it. Michael you left us much too soon
I remember watching Soupy Sales on Ch5 in the mid 60s and he made a joke about thinning hair - he then said "..well, who wants fat hair?...right Art?" I knew he was referring to crew member Art Siedel but I didn't know what he looked like. Well, there he is ..with no hair!!😃
Our friend, a sound engineer at ABC, got us into the studio for a taping of the New Year's Eve 1961 show in Hollywood. I was 12 years old. It was a thrill.
Dick Smyth in fine form, before he would gain notoriety covering the Detroit riots and then going on to a long career as news director at CHUM in Toronto. He was also part of the original news team at Toronto's 680 News, along with doing commentary on TV. In '63, I don't know if he'd yet assumed the News Director's job at CK. This cast is notable for its style. Much of it is a straight read, not a ton of audio. Generally, that's how they did things back then. Also, Dick reads commercial copy. My how times have changed! Thanks for posting this excellent aircheck.
1:56 - flagship status. That is a famous show. I believe ABC that got reruns on the flagship network that WPIX never could defeat - WWOR (and this is sort of the transition period of WOR, although not really because WWOR looked like some popular black action movie from the 80s, so WWOR was always a black station before UPN came around).
I did not see Soupy until he had a new syndicated show in 1978. My mom loved it, as she grew up watching Soupy. At first, I was not interested, but as I watched more and more I became a fan of the show. Soupy Sales knew how to put on a show.
I remember my family watching this show when I was a kid. TNN was a good channel back then. Thanks for posting! Please post more episodes if you have them.
He had the joke written on his blackboard.....when the sponsors put 2 + 2 together they ended his career "What word begins with an F...(and ends with a)...UCK ".....FIRETRUCK of course.......FACT!!!
