So, you're complaining about people who pay for SC have it easier because they don't have to work INGAME when 1.0 is released? I don't like to "work" when i have time to play a game. If there's a way to buy things, instead of doing simple stupid moronic tasks like mining, then hell yeah, i'm gonna buy it. If i can keep the game YOU like alive with that, it's for the better. This whole video is an absolute waste of time.

I think people buying large ships are in for a shock. In the case of the larger ships, the "Career path" doesn't have as much to do with earning the ship itself as it does earning the respect of others as an organizer...or being able to realize that as an owner you are bringing together others who do have charisma and organizational skills to create something larger that people want to be a part of. So I think there are going to be slots for people to actually live and be a part of the verse no matter what their personality or situation. I also think that some of the people that have purchased these larger ships will never utilize them... because they lack the understanding of all of the above and they THINK that they have just paid to win. They think this... only to find that they actually do have to put in the work to form a cohesive band of brothers... or put in the work to become a part of one such band.

Solution : Don't use the ships you bought until achieving a milestone. It could be anything : gain the ingame money it normally cost, achieving a certain level of rep with one or multiple faction, even doing something difficult on your own composition But I will use my C1. It just my beloved C1 to use so much in the alpha, why abandoning it now. My point is that feelings have a value :) And in the end, everyone will do as they please, and that's fine

The fundamental premise: "If I buy a ship, it doesn't really affect anyone, right?" Is false and flawed. It absolutely does affect everyone and every aspect of the game down to the very fundamental core. One of the most important parts of an MMO is showing off cool stuff you earned in the game. Other people see a cool skin or mount or weapon or ship and then they get inspried to find out how to get it and go and do something in the game. That is why loot behind big bosses or events or whatever are rare and have value, because you actually had to do something to earn it in game, and everyone knows that. A huge driving factor for an MMO is players feeling like they accomplished something. Life isn't fair, your job sucks, but in this fantasy world you are a badass, and can show it off to others. The moment cosmetic items are sold, it undercuts the fabric of an MMO that ties the entire game together. It cheapens the entire experience. Cash shops always make a game worse, every time, without fail. Even in the most benign of cases, like Guild Wars 2 or Path of Exile. Great games, but they would be better without the cash shop. Hands down. And the moment cash shops exist, the greed of studio management will always win. Problems are made so solutions can be sold. Instead of making cool armor or weapons to earn in game, they get put on the cash shop. Now there is no incentive to actually play the game if you want a snazzy helmet, you just swipe your credit card. You can't show it off, because nobody is impressed, because everyone knows you did nothing to earn it. The illusion of fairness is shattered. Star Citizen is this in the extreme. Ships being sold for cash means no ship has value. There is no awe or wonder when a new player sees a cool ship for the first time and wonders how to get it. There is no rarity to anything when on the first day after a wipe everyone can hop in their capital ship. Cash shops make tons of money, which is why it happens. But they are bad for the players. And infects and contaminates every aspect of a game. The next big MMO will not happen until a company re-learns this and restrains themselves from milking the players as much as they can.

altough I totally agree with you on the subject of "satisfaction with progression". For me in Star Citizen roleplaying also is a big factor, and your backstory wouldn't really have to been played trough imo. so yes, from a "gamers perspective" progression is part of that and you should def work your way up. but from a "role play perspective" working your way up for a gameplay you actually play the game for feels like a long grind. Also, I want to mention, some of the ships you name in your progression need a relative big crew, so it would make sense to buy ships together. but unfortunally that is not a feature (yet). I think it's hard to find players that just want to crew and solely crew, and will take a 10% cut when you take a 50% cut just to earn back your ship.

You contradict yourself several times during the video, which tells me that you're worried about what others think. Stop. If you have an opinion, state it and stick to it. Back it up with everything you have. What other people think of that opinion is what is truly worthless. Now, as for your opinion: You are coming at this as a Lone Wolf single player. That's fine, I suspect a majority of the player base are single players, like 99.9%. I however, am coming at this as the organizer of an Organization. As such, my progression is to find Lone Wolves, invite them to crew one of my ships, and teach them how to work as efficiently as possible as a team. I also need to recognize the leaders among the crews and give them the opportunities to move up the ranks to potentially Captain the ship so they can find, teach and inspire their own crew. Alternatively, I also will need leaders to take positions within the Organization, who can take ownership of an area they enjoy and make sure that everything runs smoothly. I am not saying your POV is wrong and mine is right. I'm pointing out that different people have different goals in this game. My fleet of ships ABSOLUTELY has value to me. It will allow me to create community and comradery between the players in my Org. It also means that I don't have to worry about how many members are in my Org and not having enough ships for them. At least not for a long time. By the time I get to that point, I will have several thousand Org Members and all the resources I need to buy whatever ships in game that I need. My grind is about management of the Organization. Finding people, then setting up systems and procedures that allow others to take my place as I move to the next level. My End Game is having the right people, properly placed, so that my Org runs itself and I only need to step in when something really unexpected happens. I honestly don't expect to ever get to that destination, but it's going to be a fun journey.

I think they can pull it off. They’ve already done the impossible in creating this game in the first place, even though it’s not finished. The closest alternative to this game is Starfield, and it’s a night and day difference in both scale and capacity. The game started development before it was technically feasible, I believe they can pull this off by the time the game releases and is fully realized.

Everyones forget the most important part that SC is missing. A FLIGHT MODEL, if piloting ships is NOT FUN, SC will fail. When I say FUN, I mean addicting, engaging. Right now the ships act if they do not weight or are not affected by gravity.

@manuelbarreto7032
@manuelbarreto7032 День назад
@@Kicker_Games I don't understand why is not more pushed/discussed. If you are making a universe centered in space, and you are literaly selling ships for thousands...how are you not working on solving the utterly mess is atmospheric flight? There are whole games that only rely on their flight model and that is enough, DCS, Flight simulator, Ace Combat, Battlefield..etc. Cloud Imperium has solved very complex issues, but when comes to the core mechanics, piloting a ships, they have surrendered completely. Am I alone on this? Am I crazy? They are making space cows, space conferences in game, a complex hair style system, they have detailed planets and and cities, but the most basic thing that should be solved 10 years ago it's nowhere to be seen.
@OneTomato
@OneTomato День назад
@@manuelbarreto7032 to be fair they are working on it, is not that simple, the flight model play into basically ALL the mechanics surrounding ships, the reason is not there yet is because is more complex then any existing game, fly model is not only about how the ship feels, they are making a whole engineering system that have a big role in the fly model all components inside will affect how you fly, maybe you want to add more power to the trusters to increase the speed ? How the ship will behave if one of the wings get destroy ? How does the ships behave in different planets gravity? Wind speed ? Atmosphere ? They are even working on how the weight of cargo and players affect how you fly the ship having 70 boxes full of cargo will feel different then having 2 cargo boxes, how you distribute them, where the trusters are placed in the ship and how their force impact the ship fly model, and all this have to play with master mode too. I don’t know if you have been following the development but is not something that they are overlooking, is just extremely complex and it doesn’t have a simple solution in a game that is trying to give the ultimate space game, this game is not focused on only in ships, don’t forget that, this is not flight simulator or kerbal space where these game focus only in 1 single thing.
@Kyle-sr6jm
@Kyle-sr6jm 19 часов назад
The flight model is f'ed because the basic physics of the game is f'ed. On top of that, they have dumbed the model down. At this point, I am not sure CIG has the talent or the engine to be able to produce a high skill ceiling 6DoF flight model.

I wonder how Maelstrom is intended to affect large multicrew ships, will we see hull breaches or will it all be exterior damage? I also wonder if maelstrom will be applied to planetary environments like breaking trees and displacing the ground with collisions or explosions. I would suspect that environmental damage would persist for a certain amount of time, maybe a day or a week, and then return to how it was before, except for around mission based areas where it would likely return to normal for the next visitor. I know Maelstrom will heavily tie in to structural salvage as they have previously mentioned, but if Maelstrom is a client side simulation I wonder how that will work. I really hope they answer these questions at citcon but thats wishful thinking.

I think there's a misconception about ships = progression. As in real life, not everybody needs a fancy sports car and even if you have one. You don't drive it everywhere because there are scenarios where it's not practical and you might prefer a regular sedan or hatchback to go the supermarket. The same with industrial or cargo vehicles. You may be able to own a massive shipping vessel, but it's impractical for the last-mile transport that's why you still have trucks and smaller cargo vans and that doesn't mean the owner of the small cargo van is less successful than the shipping company owning the cargo ship. The key in SC, as of right now, is finding your niche and get the right tool for the job. Sometimes you'll need a bigger ship, but others the smaller one is the right choice. And even in those cases you don't need to own a larger ship if you have friends or are part of an org who can provide you the vessel and even a crew to run it.

You make some good points in this video. It got me thinking, what if eventually CIG ran two Persistent Universes? One universe where all is normal and you have your pledge ships. And a second, separate universe where nobody has access to their pledge ships except starter ships. All ships would have to be bought and earned in-game, and that universe could wipe at the end of each year so everyone starts fresh again for the next year/wipe.

I do agree with you in the most part, but as a long time MMORPG player and experienced Elite player, I'm way past the point of enjoying the progression of gaining cash, improving gear or ships, or whatever. It all comes down to enjoying time with your friends, random, or even yourself. Having a goal of some sort does help you motivate, but goals also makes you satisfied with the game so easily which is what the video is focused more on. I always tell anyone that is considering pledging for a ships if they just what the ship, or they what the gameplay that comes with it. If you just want the ship, you really shouldn't. Sounds counter intuitive, but the moment you buy that ship for owning pleasure, the ship is done for you.

The concept is cool, but this tech only works in a very limited space with only a few players that need to receive all the changes in the space that they and others will provoke. When you see how the servers reacted with only 500 players while almost everything is static and only a few updates that impact the surroundings need to be sent to the other players.
@hawkzulu5671
@hawkzulu5671 День назад
How was almost everything static in a 500 player server test?.. have you seen the Star Atlas 500 - 1000 player tests where all the players are on foot and in 1 zone on the ground? ..in SC people are taking off, landing, QT jumping all around the verse, landing at outposts and engaging in fire fights with NPC and calling and using every type of armor, weapons, ground vehicles and ships they own and randomly engaging in PVP. I arrived late to the most recent test, so i missed when they cranked the player count up - but it was 350 player servers when i was in and the server FPS was pegged at 30. There was a issue where anybody QT jumping from Orison to Cellin would get stuck and their ships become immobile - so they called the test, since they had data they needed ..I hear the next one is this week- lets see if its that full 24 hour test they have their eyes on
@nebulajumper6216
@nebulajumper6216 День назад
@@hawkzulu5671 Not talking about the players or some items they left on the floor (if the servers let them). During the test, how many actions could players perform that had to be syncronised towards the other players around them? I saw some items on the ground, but for the rest, it was only the player characters that moved or even stood still because of the desyncs. Now imagine this with maelstrom where a wall could explode into 200 smaller parts that all need to be synced with the other players that are there. That is a lot more info to send to the servers and back to other players. When 500 persons are at one location, the server needs to receive the updates from those 500 and send them back to the 500. When players are distributed across a huge space, the server needs to receive the updates from those 500 players, but only need to send these to he players in close proximity. That is a huge difference. So it code correctly, it should be less demanding to have 500 people far from each other, then 500 people next to each other.

i think the performance will not be such a big problem .. they probably will simulate the larger parts on the server and add a bunch on the client side to make stuff look good without the need for physics to sync to the server and everyone around .. if the system is deterministic the client should see the same even if things get simulated separately on the server, the causing and the receiving game client .. if they add a bit of dust and smoke they also have the required time (up to ~150ms) for the initial impact to be synced to everyone involved as a seed for the procedural damage ... well .. that is how i would try to do that anyway :D

When the universe expanses, there will be a lot of other things to do with our limited available time as adults. Such as buying appartments in cities, new hangars at different location, customize them, build bases. Even if we have many ships, we don't have all of them, there are always new ones released to discover and no ultimate ship exists, as they are dedicated to specific activities. Personality, I have a small goal of purchasing my 890i in game and I will probably go through all the series.
