To clear up any confusion beforehand: Every track after (9:33) in the video will NOT have a shortcut category in CTGP in the upcoming update. Some may be added in the future, but currently they will not have any recognition in the CTGP Ghost Database. The timesave is based on the comparison between the fastest shortcut time (shown in video) and the fastest no-shortcut time. Some tracks have shortcuts which do not beat the no-shortcut record. The TAS only section (8:08) shows cuts which have not been performed RTA yet, but could potentially be and therefore added as categories. N64 Frappe Snowland, Neo Koopa City, and Twin Peaks are all 3 lap tracks. They are 1 lap only in the video because of the method I used to record each track's shortcut.
In MKWii, there are "checkpoint" zones and only 3 are loaded at a time (The one you are on, the one behind you, and the one in front of you), well it turns out if you are able to get past the "starting checkpoint zone" (The zone around the finish line that stops you from driving back to count a lap) you can go to the point behind it to make the game think you went though the track and allow you to gain a lap. This strategy allows you to complete laps insanely quickly on a few maps that can be broken like this.
there's not a lot of timesave available with the shrooms, and there was a lot of extra timesave available only on lap 2 - the staircase skip (saving like .3 or so) - extra trick on geysers (extra .1-.2) i also drove l2 better honestly but those things are also why it's so close, shrooms don't really save much time before the respawn
I began working on a TAS of this track in 2022 when the respawn was first discovered. It is to my excitement that I can present a completed run now. The largest roadblock that stopped my attempts was the respawn itself, which went from pacelocked to qm based as the shroomless respawn requires a precise angle which is not consistently findable. The initial finding of shroomless respawn stopped me in 2022, trying to get the good qm stopped me in 2023, but now I have been able to overcome it and complete a run that I am proud of. I began this run in July 2023 after scrapping an initial run in October 2022. After 3 days, I hit the roadblock of respawn on Lap 2 and stopped. I picked up the TAS yesterday and after getting the right qm, completed the run you see now. It can be improved a lot obviously, with better driving and possibly a better shroom usage at the beginning.
