I want to talk about Carl Sagan. To many people Carl Sagan was a voice of reason. He was a kind and intelligent man who took on the position of educating the masses. His lectures and presentations were edifying and helpful in promoting enlightenment among the masses. I say bullshit! I say that Carl Sagan was a propagandist who spread hate and division amongst the masses. Under the guise of scientific enlightenment, he justified condescension and derision towards Christians and other believers. And he does it in a sneaky and passive/aggressive way, which makes him even more despicable! Science is owned by the people who fund it. If science didn't help to make profits for industrialists or if it didn't feed the war machine, then it wouldn't exist except for maybe in cloister. Sagan worked for NASA. I think for PR as much as anything. His presence made NASA look like it had a peaceful, beneficial to humanity mission. NASA was publicly funded R&D for defense contractors. Data obtained through the projects at NASA helped the defense establishment to build ICBM's. Sagan was certainly a part of the Military Industrial Complex. In his own little way, he contributed to the war machine. (Sagan wasn't very bright and I am sure he was just a useful idiot.) Sagan and his modern counterparts are copies of each other. They all say the same thing. None of them will ever talk about the dark side of the technocracy. They will never mention that science has enabled copious amounts of pollution. They will never talk about how science feeds the war machine. Leaving out a large part of the story makes him deceptive. Public Broadcasting isn't funded by hippies. It is funded by serious businesspeople who work at large, worldwide, corporations. Big oil, big agriculture. I have seen where BP and Archer Daniels have underwritten PBS presentations. Why would such wealthy, smart and powerful people be so interested in indoctrinating the masses? I don't know! As far as the science he was pushing: Big Bang cosmology is highly theoretical. In order to find out if the hypotheses about the big bang are true, we would have to get in a space cruiser and get a closer look. I doubt that will ever happen. Evolution is just plain stupid. There never has been a clear demonstration of speciation. If you want to believe that slime on a rock turned into Beethoven that is your business. It is also true to say that one can reject evolution and it will in no way hurt the quality of their life. Evolution is a hobby that is used for atheist propaganda. In science theory means no practical value as much as anything else. Carl Sagan got the job because of his nerdy good looks and warm demeanor. It is just show business. Carl is an atheist equivalent to a televangelist preacher. Carl got the job because he looked good on television and his handlers knew that would help the indoctrination to sink in the minds of the public. With Carl Sagan one doesn't get the full story. One only hears what the people who sign his paycheck want them to hear.
There is evidence for God every day . Every time a baby is born , it is a miracle , the gift of life from God . Also , Christopher Hitchens certainly didn't place the stars , planets and the Earth in place . God did it . God created the universe and life . The burden of proof is always on the non - believer because God made those claims in his holy word , the Bible . And it is good to know that Carl Sagan is humble enough to admit that God created the universe and life .

You're not "saving a step" to say , well if God always existed, then to just say the universe always existed, because obviously it didn't, as concluded by science. Please pick up a few general books on cosmology and read up on which ideas are considered firm conclusions, which are considered likely but not certain, and which are considered interesting possibilities for which we have yet no evidence either way. All our ideas about the very initial origin of the universe fall into the third category, and any credible professional cosmologist will tell you this.

The origins of a belief in "God" began when the ancient Hebrews walked the desert plains and questioned the origins of creation. It was imagined that in some way the SOURCE of CREATION must surely be a "superhuman man-god" invisible and far transcendent to earth and humankind. Some of the ancient Prophets were mystically aware that the Source of Creation was diffuse and present - in some way - throughout creation and was also sited in the eternal dimension but this mysticism was not available to the average human mind. We must also understand that, despite the present "seeming reality" (in our minds) of such a "God" from the readings in the Bible, no one has ever glimpsed such a "superhuman man-god" in any form whatsoever, except, perhaps, Moses who claimed he saw Him in a "burning bush" and described Himself as "I Am that I Am". All that people have known of such a "superhuman god" has been derived from reading the colorful descriptions of "God" given by Prophets during their sojourn on earth. It is a hallmark of how illusory are religious beliefs that religionists return only to the ancients for their "truth" since they cannot believe that "God" is truly real, eternal and equally able to speak to people in our day and age. Their ministers are terrified of any beliefs which do not meld into the old ones. Their ministers never consider - or are afraid to consider - that perhaps spiritual knowledge within the earthly dimension - is evolutionary! I want you to "see" that a "fabric of beliefs", a mixture of rationalizations and beliefs, has been concocted to make a web of mental/emotional security with which to enmesh and trap the minds and hearts of people. No, the origins of a belief in God began when God created mankind and revealed who He was to people, more so in writing beginning with the OT. God promised to preserve His Word as well. It's God we'll have to convince that we knew better than Him and His Word. Dancing was believed to be sinful and wicked by certain Christian sects for instance. Therefore - many people who would have derived great happiness and release from stress when dancing - were wrongfully denied this pleasure. Christianity comes under the same heading. Beliefs are the very substance of Christianity. They are founded on age-old happenings - which are nothing but belief. The beliefs may have been relevant to the general mindset of those times - but they have long since become irrelevant in a constantly changing world - yet they are strictly adhered to and become the focus of worship - festivities - celebrations - mourning - and more destructively - they become the reason for men killing one another and causing horrific misery to women and children. Christianity claims that "God is everywhere and in all things" - but also affirm dogmatically - that no one knows the "mind" of God - or the reasons why people kill one another - it may be in "God's plan" - they say. With mindsets composed of a conglomeration of illogical beliefs - where can mankind - at this present time - find any certainty of beauty - joy - health - well-being - and love? Christian ideas present God whose will can bring life and healing or death and destruction. In such beliefs - there is no certainty of anything other than uncertainty. With such a belief - any sickness or abnormality can be excused as being "God's Will". It is our BELIEFS which control all our expectations of what life may hand out in the future. Then claiming "CHRIST'S LETTER from CHRIST'S WAY" is false as what you mention is contrary to the Word of God / Jesus Christ - is very contrary to Christ's way. People are of course free to believe what they wish - many false religions that will pretend to follow Christ are following false versions of Him, and they'd all be without excuse before God, as His Word will judge them : they heard it, they rejected it. *"He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day."* John 12.48 You reject Christ's words. Such a lost sole, doesn’t have the belief in God. Faith is the belief in something unproven. My faith is in the one true God and I will pass on from this world to to live with my creator for eternity unlike me Sagan while exist in hell and be separated from God!
There's nothing admirable about faith. It's just wishful thinking. By your own admission, your faith is in a being which you aren't even certain exists, not "the one true God". Your hateful vision of people going to Hell forever just for using their ability to think (which your God gave them) is likewise childish and repulsive. And if someone believes a soul is that important, you would think they would learn how to spell it.
