I wore Polaroid inflexible lens sunglasses, kept in place at night with a face mask fastened over the glasses; this worked perfectly for me, in my opinion. Useful commentary, thanks and regards JB
The kindness of the nurse and the light-hearted but professional approach by the doctor made this a less traumatic experience. Great care from a great team.
At age 77, I had my first shot June 4, 2024, after experiencing a very sudden onset of wet macular degeneration in my left eye shortly following an intense exercise routine using 15-pound dumbbells. After the assistant deadened my eye and applied antiseptic, the doctor told me to lean my head back and look up. He held my eyelid open with his gloved hand and stuck the needle in my eye--no eye clip involved. No big deal. My visiion is slowly improving. I'll go back July 3 for another shot.
I had my third shot. One they didn't do it like this man. I didn't get 3 drops of numbing. It did hurt. But I told my doctor it did. See blood drops in my eye.
My dad went through 2 yrs of painful injections to supposedly help his macular degeneration - Avastin only left him with permanent scarring.. which the scareing from reaction to Avastin ledt my dad blind …. Now what??
I feel burning pain once the medication is injected into my eye. They use a lot of numbing drops. I do not feel the needle. I just feel pressure. I do not feel the little hinge that they keep my eye open with but once the medicine is into my eye, it’s just like you took a hot poker out of a fireto say there’s no pain is not exactly true
I have to have this done all the time. I had a vitrectomy recently and they said I might not need to have the injections anymore but my eyes are still getting bad and I had to have another one done today. I really don’t like having it done, I have sensitive eyes and it’s painful. I’m 34 and type one diabetic.
I have my first appointment tomorrow and I'm not looking forward to it but this video has helped a lot - and I know the alternative to not having the treatment!
Great explanation on my superpower and how I take advantage of my severe nearsightedness by taking off my progressive glasses to read. This is a good warning to prepare myself, and I think I will go for the cheaper reading glasses and adjust to not having my superpower that you describe. I would still like some better advice on what to do in between the two cataract surgeries, since I can't see to get around the house without tripping, everything is a struggle without a pair of glasses on. Is dealing with impaired vision, wearing one contact, one eye closed, for 3 weeks the only options available for the interim period? I hope my one cataract doesn't have complications. I think that's the period I need to prepare myself for rather than not having the ability to put my phone 4 in from my face and have my superpower of magnification.

YOU ARE LYING: Proparacaine Hydrochloride Ophthalmic solution is a topical anesthetic to numb the eye BEFORE getting the eye. NOT a new drug to treat macular degeneration
I know this video is over 5 years old but I am watching this video on 2/22/24 because my husband who has had T2D for 7 years (as a result of all the Bipolar Disorder meds he has taken for the past 30 years) was diagnosed with Mild NPDR (Non-Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy) yesterday after his annual eye exam with the aid of an additional test called "Fundus Photography" which isn't always covered by insurance but is worth the $80 out-of-pocket if you have to pay it. Hopefully, his case won't progress to develop DME wnere he will also need injections but if it does, I want to be prepared for it. My concern would be that he wouldn't be able to remain still for the shot because he has also developed "Drug Induced Parkinsonism" as a result of those drugs and the only treatment options in his case is to "reduce or stop the offending drug" (Carbidopa/Levidopa won't work) which we have already done. I wish he could just stop the damn drugs but fear himbecoming psychotic and being hospitalized.
Question from a fellow professional from India about to undergo cataract surgery on one (R) eye: given that my other (L) eye has mild cataract -- 20/20 after correction for 3D Sph myopia plus 1 D for index myopia -- what would the ideal monofocal IOL choice be for my right eye if I spend most of my time indoors reading and listening to podcasts on my cell phone (can read the smallest print up close unaided) WITHOUT CAUSING post-op ANISOMETROPIA & dizziness, diplopia etc? I intend to put off surgery on the other eye till early 2025 unless the cataract progresses dramatically. Thanks and warm regards.
When Eylea was introduced we thought it would solve my wet AMD problems I have been injected every four weeks with Eyelea 8 times but the blood leaking has not stopped Is Vabysmo the answer or will Faricimab control the leaking blood?. This condition is also complicated by Glaucoma which I was told prevents any corrective surgery.
Thank you for the video. So if you have lived near-sighted and want to retain enough nearsightedness to read at normal book distance (e.g. the "Harmon" distance), how do you see at the intermediate distances? i.e. 3ft for the counter, 12ft. for the TV or 15ft for things at that radius ... on out to horizon distance ... can they write you a progressive prescription that goes from say +/- -2 diopters down to 0 at close distance? In other words something similar to progressives with a zero-diopter close point? Are patients who retain some nearsightedness generally happy with that?
I had this done today 12/26/2023. I have leaking in my blood vessels due to diabetes. I woke up and I couldn't see at all from my left eye, everything was bloody and dark, what a scary feeling that was. And today the Doctor gave an injection called Eylea and told me it's going to take 3 weeks to clear and get a good vision. I was 💩 my pants, but the injection itself does not hurt. Watch your diabetes really close guys.
