There's some good information here, but your forgot the padding to prevent the contents from moving around within the box during transport. You show an example of small items being put in a big box, without any packing material to take up free space, and then the Styrofoam lid being closed. In that scenario, all the contents will be repeatedly thrown around within the box during transport, possibly causing breakage or leakage. Not good packing technique.
Here in Virginia, a case of CWD was discovered. Some of the taxidermists are collecting the samples, then turning them over to a certified lab. A 2017 note said it takes abt. 7-10 days for results. If you send a deer to a processor, ask that your animal be processed individually.
So how dangerous are the prions, can they jump from deer to humans? For example are prions present in the blood, is it in the urine-poop, saliva, does the blood contaminate the area of the kill and field dressing and how hard is it to wash off? The $50 plus for my (and every other deer/small game/fishing tag) should yield some answers as the DNR has played grab ass for years with this. How about an instant test.......?????? Seems like no one really cares-but you may in 20 years.....If you know what I mean.
From what I have found on the internet: no one knows. The authorities say that it might cause illness in people. It is also known that this disease is caused by prions. With CWD the animal is infested with prions. If you are at all concerned, don't even go hunting. Consider that if these prions do cause disease in people, that you would be bringing them home with you. They will remain on you clothes, gloves, knives, tools, etc. You cannot wash them, you cannot get rid of it with chemicals, you must discard it, or incinerate in a controlled furnace at or above 1832°F for at least 15 minutes, and hope for the best. No part of the animal is salvageable either and, even if there was some salvageable part, you would contaminate in the process of butchering it. I just found out about it today and I am appalled at how irresponsible the authorities are at controlling the cow version (BSE). Never in my life I thought I would become vegan and maybe I won't but for now I am only avoiding beef. Scary stuff.
@@A_Box lt doesn't seem to matter if you are a vegan as the prions will and do 'grab' onto leaves, trees, grass (vegetables/fuit) and persist for years or decades. Seemingly consuming meat would be of much greater risk... If only it were profitable to have a guaranteed quality safe food supply. Nope, that cuts profits and if you get sick (Jacobson's disease) any lawsuits would quickly point to hunting and quickly turn into a very complicated and expensive (for you) affair. Guess there is only so much you can do to protect yourself- But it would be nice to see some action on the part of the states/Feds......-----. Maybe the prions should be renamed "ford class aircraft carriers or F-35's" then there would be some $$$ thrown at this issue that could very well be bad. Very very bad.
@@office-oholics4182 So far we only know of CWD being taken up by the plants. Maybe it is the case with other prions but still it may just be that it hasn't been studied yet. I think the best we can do is to spread awareness. Also, the feds are crooked. The USDA straight up forbades private businesses from testing their own cattle of their own accord. Our lab rinses these containers with hot water between samples to prevent cross contamination. At the end of the day we clean with dish soap and hot water.
