Yes, all of these were initially created as communication sites. Although they were also upgraded to hub sites and nominated as the home site for each tenant as well.

However, in this video we did want to keep things quite high level and show how SharePoint intranets can have different purposes - and that there are choices in terms of styling, layout and emphasis of particular features that can help support those differing objectives.
