I am an architect, writer and artist, but I spend much of my spare time messing about in a small boat. This channel reflects these passions, but at present it is mostly about boats! I was born in Carlisle in 1958 (whatever Google may think!) and now live in France.
THE DINGHY CRUISING ASSOCIATION In 1955 a group of British cruising dinghy sailors set up an Association to share information, to organise rallies and to promote the activity. The Association now has an international membership and I am its President. www.dinghycruising.org.uk
THE DINGHY CRUISING COMPANION Venturing into the fringes of the wilderness with the minimum of simple gear, to live with it on its own terms. One of the sure ways to contentment in this life is a small boat, a fair wind, and a new coast to explore. www.bloomsbury.com/us/dinghy-cruising-companion-2nd-edition-9781472994295/
ARCHITECTURE There are very few architectural videos on here. One day there will be more.
Wow. Such a lot of whiners about the Seagull. It’s a great motor for what it does. I have two and very occasionally use them. You use what you have unless you’re of the leisure class that insists you go buy an electric outboard for thousands of pounds. Snobs! BTW, I use official biodegradable oil with mine.
An après analysis (which we all have done) is great. That's a lesson and a half, for sure. I'm my case, I capsized a, wayfarer with a rookie crew... And not in bad conditions. But it made me think hard and bref, it was the boat design. I got a laser 16 cruising with a stock 80kg alloy plate.
Cannot believe Roger is 82 years old! Thought he was 20 years younger. It is so calming and wonderful watching his adventures. Will be getting out in a dinghy v soon
I've enjoyed your adventures and you're wonderful boat and kit and cooking setup. K i s s Outlook I've been subscribed to you for quite some time but somehow good old RU-vid did what they do blessings to you and yours coming at you from Southern Oregon
It’s Friday after work and I’m watching this video again. Have watched it a ridiculous number of times. It’s just glorious. I must take my boat to that festival. Bucket list item.
So nice to see this video. I have a bigger boat, but far away from home. So I remember back when starting sailing in a dinghy on a tidal river with sleeping under a boom tent, when I was a young boy. So I bought the book from Roger, saw different videos and realized that I should go and build a dinghy. The Scamp was not on my mind. I saw the boat and thought it's too small and ugly. But I did watch many videos here about the Scamp and saw what a fine design she is. So I ordered a set of plans today and will figure out where and how to build mine....🙂
Hi Roger! Thanks a lot for your videos, they are very peaceful and beautiful! I have a question but I'm afraid my English is too poor for being understood so I count on your French skills sorry.. Thanks again and bons vents à toi!
Starmer is dangerous. He is not able to assess and prioritise situtions which all norml pepole are able to do. Starmer needs to be relieved of his post and put through a period of political potty training if he is to remain in that particular industry.
The French word “paisible” came into my mind whilst watching this delightful video. It captures the mood perfectly and was just what I needed. Thanks for sharing the experience. So kind.
As a small dinghy sailor myself, you made me nervous every time you dropped the mainsheet! And letting go of the tiller while tacking or gybing is also asking for a swim. Still, no capsize, so okay.
That’s amazing little pocket cruiser Mary ,thankyou for sharing that with us ,it’s difficult to believe its only 12 ft long .i guess you could have a boom up tent like roger has on his dinghy.i look forward to seeing you have more adventures with her and looks as if Brittany would be a ideal cruising ground .best wishes robert.
Hi Roger, I'm Brian. I really enjoy watching your videos. I'm in the US and tend toward overlanding, but find there is a lot of overlap with your sailing. I'm not totally unfamiliar with watercraft, but can't finance two mistressses. Thank you and please, if it's at all convenient , please keep providing content.
Your dulcet tones marry perfectly with the gentle lapping of the water against your boat as you sail effortlessly around the beautiful Breton coastline. Thanks so much for sharing your experience and passion so selflessly. Cela réjouit mon coeur surtout avec un bon verre en main.
Hi Roger I'm not sure if you are ware, but i have just bought August 2024 from Compass24 (a German outfit) a copy of the old style Origo 1500 they have a 3000 too and its less expensive.
I seem to have missed this video. I didn't yet have "Novalis" at the time. She does well in the kind of seas you show. I have been out on the Baie de Quiberon twice this year (2024) and many times on the Rance and out through the Saint-Malo lock. I have many places to explore that I have neglected until now. Thank you for the ideas.
My father had a saying “it’s a long day yet!” He lived to 104 with minimal stress. I’m delighted to have discovered your channel with its easy going approach to life. I’m not a sailor but never say never. I might still take a course and look for a boat. Many thanks for your posts and insights into life and sailing small boats.
