My issue with this poor false widow spider is that he trapped it in a jar and kept shaking the F out of it as he was talking.. Alright mate stop shaking the tub now.. ffs
Incredible that a reunification referendum could take place without the franchise of citizens abroad. Citizenship would really mean nothing if the country could be changed so fundamentally without consent. Just as British citizens abroad were disenfranchised for the Brexit referendum.
Add missing sector orb weaver to the list of spiders commonly mistaken for false widows in houses late summer and autumn. Again, completely harmless. Great video.
I was bitten when clearing a one from my BBQ gas on my caravan. The bite was not that bad but my leg blow up to a massive size but one hour later I as in A&E and on antibiotics. I was on holiday so they agreed to give me the strongest antibiotics they could give in a pill and boy the side affect. I had 10 days worth and when I finished I needed 7 days more. The biggest concern was I had sepsis a few years before. Not a good time
I’m quite worried after being bitten by a false widow early hours of the morning, I was asleep I assume it was on my pillow and I squashed it, looks like bit me 3 places on my cheek on my face, I woke up in extreme pain, had no idea what was wrong, then I felt a tickling and wriggling on my chest so I speedily grabbed at it and crushed it, it didn’t survive but I have put it in a little tub and it’s in the freezer incase I need it …… my face is still really painful , should I get medical treatment or is it a wait and see type thing?
Black Widows usually only have one red spot under their body, so that might be another kind of spider that pretends to be widows for defence. So you MIGHT be fine. See alot of them in Utah so they're a normal sight, great for my anxiety~ I'd say ask an expert, cause you might have literally nothing to worry about, but that 50/50 ain't exactly worth it.
Really informative video although I knew all this already. It must be really disappointing to make a clear, scientific, factual video, like this, then read the idiocy in the comments thread. I swear they see the name then go straight to comments to tell everyone the rubbish they think, despite just being told its rubbish. People, theres no improving them!
Have had loads of false widows here in England for years in my last house and many now in my greenhouse - finally think I got bitten several times by one trapped in my gardening gloves and , although I'm ok, the bites are still red and itchy after 3 and a half days - the bite wasn't painful enough at first for me to take off the gloves and look but it's bothering me now
Brendan O'Leary repeatedly refers to "Re-unification", Oran Doyle to "Unification". History says Oran Doyle's term is the right one. Ireland has never been a unified state or people, so you cannot "re-unite" it.
Before political unity, Ireland operated under common law, common religion, common language, common bartering systems. We were united in our hatred of our oppressors when the British invaded. But you're right, though we were united in law, language, religion, ideology, and economics... we weren't technically a "United Ireland"
Where I work in the docks of Belfast, there is a chair in the reception area with 2 or 3 falsies living under it. The whole of the underside of the chair is covered with web that's littered with the carcasses of eaten woodlice.
Loving the NOSTROMO t-shirt, Event Horizon is so underrated. Now educate people on jumping spiders, they're native to Ireland too, and I'm sick of people thinking I'm a freak cause I have four of them.
I ended up in hospital and surgery from a bite from one of these on my arse I must have sat on one! I’ve since seen a few inside and outside my flat. I still put them outside and don’t Kill them. Pain of an injury has to get the wound repacked every day for like a month
Found your channel through the Blindboy podcast Collie, such an amazingly informative episode and your passion exudes through the internet. Still thinking about the old guy in the auld folks home when the python came crashing through the ceiling!! Native seeds on order and planning to seed bomb the shit out of our city next week.
These housespiders are fun! They may stay! When a spider is of a species which can live in my house, it is okay. Funfact of the housespider is that spiders either trap their pray, or they go hunting. The housespider does both, which is ultracool.
I’ve taken at least 5 of these out of my house over the summer. They are everywhere. Very docile spider. If you have a web in the house that is like candy floss - have a good look around
Bru i Was bitten for 2 months , i make pictures from her from the bittes and the spider we was in Canaria Island and we bring it in , she bitte me 3 times in my Hand, now i have lyme disease, he give me Antibiotika, and a long time Was gone the doc belive me this shit maybe u can help me , have bad feeeligs now, and the spider have a Sand hourglass on her bud
That was a Steatoda Nobilis to be exact. I'd like to know, are they so shiny bc they have an oily coating on their skin? Are they slimy? Or do they merely appear that way but are actually dry to the touch?
If I see a giant house spider, I usually leave it alone and just observe it. I only safely remove cellar spiders if it looks like they're a threat to other spiders. I've only seen false widows in my flat twice and both times I caught them in a jar and removed them to a safe place outside, well away from the flat. Edit: I sometimes see jumping spiders on the clothes line in the summer. They're cool to observe. One of my favourites to observe are garden orb weavers. They can make pretty big webs.
I was bitten by one a few weeks ago. Holy shit was it bad. I had a one inch deep hole in my leg. I never though in my life I would get bit by a spider in London nevermind the absolute carnage it caused. 2 weeks of anti-biotics and 4 extra weeks of cavity fillings/dressing to allow the hole to heal. I for the life of my cannot recall how or where it happened. So i can only assume it was when I was asleep.
For those reading this comments, the scar on my leg is still here. It's very very obvious and I have to be careful when I scatch it because it instantly swells up. Looks like this is a life thing now. So bad.
I’m in London and got one on my bum cheek must have sat on it ended up in walk in, surgery within hours days of antibiotic drip and daily redressings for the next 4 weeks. It was about 4 inch hole they left I think. It healed up now and I still put them I outsife found a few inside and out my flat since. Sorry yours is bad mine is barely visible now I’m fine with it
I think I just found one in my flat and I squashed it with my mobile phone!!!! It was on my pillow and now I'm going to spray every bloody corner of my flat
I love my little juvenile false widow. They don't seem to have urticating setae even though up close you can see fine hairs. I am able to house a widow so at least it's guaranteed to have a good life, no breeding and I can also study their behaviour more. The hairs on some new world tarantulas are far worse and we keep them on purpose. Strange world we live in.
I think one of these has bitten me on the elbow. It swelled up massively, was extremely painful for a week but it's died down now. The wound has not healed properly it's left a little hole and is still quite red around it.
My 70 yr old brother in law now has septicaemia from a bite of something. He deteriorated at home in bed for a number of days with so much pain in his calf which swelled up so badly my sister got an ambulance. He’s been diagnosed with insect bite. He’s in intravenous antibiotics now in Hosp. What could it be that bit him ?
My friend's daughter was bitten by a false widow on the side of her foot. A huge blister appeared and she became unwell. She ended up in hospital on IV antibiotics.
