I'm half Native, smoking & outdoor campfires are kind of part of our culture. It's weird these days, hamunity has never been this far removed from our roots. I'd say it's having more of a negative effect than positive but thats me. It's just not good for beings who ALL have to die evenetually to be this risk averse & afraid of dying.
Yeah...the MGM thing was probably a result of MJ & David Gest putting on multiple shows at the MGM Grand back in like 2001 etc. They were just covering their own bottom line. Kind of like taking a shot at R.Downey Jr while playing a Disney World event. Shows the importance of knowing, not just who is banging who but also who is working with who. I started shaving the sides & the back of my head some years ago b/c I started training the Cossack martial systems but it does actually serve a purpose. It's not just for looks. The chain maille coif will pull your hair out & the only place on the head not covered in maille is the very top. 😂
I prefer training with blades but da pew pew has it's place too. Though these days not even our cops train enough & I dont just mean on how ro use the weapon either. Most of the time they are so damned jumpy they end up mag dunping the wrong dude. I train 5 days a week b/c I believe that if one is going to own & possibly use weapons they need to be trained not only in how to use it but how to stay calm & hipefully avoid having to even use fu*king weapons in the 1st place.

I train every day except Sunday. Though I transitioned from Japanese fighting systems to HEMA systems some years ago. We have our own systems that were every bit as conplex & developed. I & others feel it's important that we train/teach them & keep them alive.
Many don't realize that James Bond & his exploits were actually based on the real life exploits of the author from his days with British Intelligence. Which is less unusual than it sounds. A great many famous people & the stories they tell, be it book or movie, have deep ties to intelligence agencies, the military & the real world operations they were involved in.
The language thing is interesting. We do the same thing with Japanese words here in the states. Pretty much all nations have adopted words from each other like that.

I would agree that as westerners our bodies & limbs are too long. Though one can use an O katana to fix a bit of that proportion problem we get when we use a regular Edo style katana.
What DLR brought was humor with a little Vaudville he never took himself too seriously. That's what set him apart from all the glam rock posers. I was in a punk rock band but loved VH! Cause Dave out dunked us all!
