Hi, I'm Missy Yandow. I'm a mom of 3 kids, a former teacher and an entrepreneur; Certified Pediatric Sleep Consultant and Certified Potty Training Consultant. Here at Slumber and Bloom, my mission is to help families find a solution to those sleepless nights and potty train without the guesswork. Hi there, my son will hold his wee all day until hes pull up gets put on for nap time. We go to the toilet every 45minutes and he drinks enough fluids. He lokes sitiing in the toilet but doesnt do anything. You can se he is at the point if almost wetting himself and/or in lain but still nothing on the toilet. Is he not ready yet? He is 3years of age, was born prematurely and has asd level 2 but isnt afraid of the toilet and has no issues with the routine
Great explanation! Is there a specific way to actually put the babies (we have twins) to sleep prior to the crib hour? We are doing a modified Ferver at night, do we use it for naps as well? Thank you!
My baby is 20 months and I know her bottle feeding is just for comfort but I’m finally getting her to sleep through the night 😢. First night of cold Turkey and I’m a mess 😭. Finally knocked out at 11:45pm
I've potty trained 4 kids now, it is NOT my favorite task🤦🏼♀️ But my youngest was fairly easy and quick to train. Also my earliest at just over 2 years. But suddenly he's going back to pooping in his underwear every stinkin' day! Hope these tips help. Thanks!
My four year old daughter (will be five in a few months) has mastered going pee in the potty, even taking herself when she has to go. Nights a dry as well. However, pooping has been a non starter. Constipation is not the issue. She seems to have some fears or anxiety but has trouble articulating what she is feeling. Occasionally she poops in the potty but usually it is just a mess in her underwear, often only a partial poop and sometimes a huge one. I like the idea of the poop gate, and we have a shipment of books on their way now. I hope to have positive updates!!
My nephew is three and he is very stubborn. He will not use the potty to pee or poop. He still uses pull-ups/ diapers. We ask him if he is ready and he keeps saying he isn’t or that he won’t do it. He also likes to hide under the table to poop in his diaper or hide elsewhere and then later, sometimes he will tell us other times we end up smelling him when he walks by. He thinks he can always get his way. What to do with a very resistant child like this that thinks he can always get his way and doesn’t want to be potty trained? His grandma doesn’t want to want until he is four. She says he needs to be potty trained now because diapers are costly and he needs to be ready for pre school soon. Any advice??
My baby sleeps easily on her own but wakes up 6 hours later and finds it hard to go back to sleep. It takes over an hour. And then she wakes every hour after that. What can i do. She is 9 months and mana needs sleep
If she's falling asleep independently at bedtime and you're having this struggle, it's a schedule issue. Make sure she's getting enough daytime sleep and and an age-appropriate bedtime followed by consistent routines. 🩷
This is obviously not a baby friendly recommendation. Do moms realize what they do to their children psychologically and physiologically with CIO that impacts them for life? Look at the research! So harsh.
Did I say to cry it out? Did you look at my background at all? Your comment is uneducated. I hold a degree in Child Psychology and Child Development. I KNOW the research, I've DONE the research. Onto the next, troll. BYEEEEEE
you did say cio at 2:02 by saying “you don’t just need to use CIO and not go check on them” but go in and check on them if they’ve been actively crying between 15 to 20 minutes. Seems like at least 15-20 minutes of CIO to me.
I rarely comment on videos but I tried this method with my toddler and it WORKED!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH! It worked within a few hours. I’ve been trying to get my very scared almost 3 year old to poop in the toilet for about 6 months now and nothing has worked. Soon as I told her about the gate opening and poop sliding out it worked!!!!!! My daughter also has a fear of rice and this is our native food I need to somehow convince her to try that too any tips??❤
I AM SO GLAD YOU COMMENTED!!!!!!!!!! I love hearing success stories like this. And I'm so glad it worked for you! As far as eating new foods, have her help you cook it!! I know rice isn't much of a cooking process, haha, but have her help with the whole meal. Hope this helps!
My little girl is 4 and has just started school. She's going 4 or 5 days without pooping. We've been to the doctors who has prescribed a stool softener but everything we stop this she blocks up again and then sits on the floor cross legged and pulls this strange straining face and pulls her hair over her face. I ask her if she wants to poop and she says no. Please help. I feel like I am failing her 😢
You're not failing her!! This is the problem with doctors prescribing a stool softener. It doesn't teach the child anything and they can begin to rely on it to poop. Although we don't want them constipated either, it doesn't help in the long run for many children. I recommend booking a package with me so I can do a deep dive and get your family through this journey. slumberandbloom.com/pottytraining/
Great advice!!! My toddler is 2 and I’m going to use a pack n’ play but I don’t want her to feel confined, should I purchase a toddler bed instead? ( while we’re sharing a room)
There are so many factors that contribute to making an effective plan for this. It depends on your child's age, milestones, temperament, your parenting style, etc. It's a holistic approach that takes extensive assessment before advising individuals. I got a 1 and half year old..we tried to stop her from breastfeeding,we could do it without proper sleep for 3 days but on the fourth day she keep on searching for boobie so instead of hearing her unstoppable screams i just feed her again..How will i stop my breastfeeding.. Forcefully and directly or day by day?
My 31 months baby girl hold pee for 7 hours today. Sit in the toilet for 3 hours did not pee , begged for diaper and then peed in diaper. What can i do
I agree 100%. As new dad I couldn't figure out what difference was between diapers & pullups and you said it exactly right...they are basically same. Our son is in process of transitioning from diapers and he went right into underwear. As you mentioned about muscle memory the underwear feel completely different (pull up would feel about same as diapers). So I think the real key is getting them into different texture on their skin and we remind him every 2 hours to see if he needs to go.
Add more stickers that they need to earn before getting a prize then the interest will eventually fade. Ex. instead of earning 5 stickers, earn 10 then the prize is smaller. Increase to needing 15 stickers before a prize and so on.
Eventually you will have to leave anyways. You can show him pictures of you at work and let him know that's where you'll be until X time (using something like "outdoor play" or "center time" instead of a time on the clock). The more you practice, the better it will get. Lingering and staying longer isn't going to help him understand. Just continue telling him that you will be back and he will be safe and have fun. 🩷🩷🩷
Just started implementing crib hour, and my little one fell back asleep 10 min before the end of crib hour. If he falls back asleep, do I let him sleep as long as he wants? As long as it’s not his last nap of the day and not cutting into the last wake window of the day?
No one said to take a week or two off. The fact is that not all kids can just go back to daycare on Monday and be perfectly potty trained. No need to dig at stay at home parents. They work hard too!
never did i take a dig at sahm. I just said this 3 day method is the only option some of us have. It seemed to me like you were crapping (no pun intended lol) on the method. Your click bate tag line basically says exactly this. “3 day method is not the answer “. Do i believe you can be perfect in 3 days? Likely not. But can you get to a very good success rate in 3 days if a child is truly ready? I believe you can. That is all i am saying. Never once did i put down sahm. I just brought up working moms have no other option a lot of the time and you should not discourage that audience inadvertently. All i am saying. But for you to assume i was crapping on sahms, that is quite the assumption. My guess is you ARE a sahm or have friends who are and have been personally attacked for it to jump the gun on me and assume i was putting down them.
I actually did with my daughter and it worked it wasnt perfect but she started to understand where to go. And she uses it on her own. I still used pulls ups when she slept and when we were out. Shes 4 now. She did it at 1
we did the warm water in a bowl on feet or hands and it worked like magic. esp since our daughter was a camel and would hold almost 10 hours during the day. we got her going good with the water then once she made the connection of the feeling the release once on the potty then we slowly started taking away the water. we only use it when we know she needs to go and it's been 6+ hours for risk of uti. and we got the poop with the pee at the sake time which I'm so thankful for! so now as soon as she sits she pees!!!! 😊😊
My husband does this and so do both my kids. When they're watching TV, all 3 of them just watch TV with their mouths open. Is it genetic because wth am i supposed to do lol. My kids don't snore... But when they're watching TV or focused, their mouths just are open with this space cadet look lol They only do this when watching TV and are heavily focused My husband snores and sleep walks and talks
This was helpful. My daughter just turned 2 and she is almost fully potty trained. She only wears a diaper at nap time and bedtime and barley wets them. Pooping is a different monster. She has went 3x but she will hold it for 2 to 3 days.
My daughter is almost 3 years old and we got the peeing part down and at times she’ll poop in the toilet if I have her without a diaper or undies but as soon as she had a diaper she’ll poop in it. Sometimes she’ll realize when it’s too late . Im not sure how to teach her how to push .. I’ve tried everything! ):
We been having the same issue with my 3.6 toddler. She started getting pain in her lower stomach. We didnt really see how long she had not gone #2. Went to urgent care and ER, xray, ultrasound and ct scan, showed it was just backed up stool. She finally went, but now is on day 5 of not going again. Says she is scared. Been giving her plums, probiotics, apple, apple juice, plenty of water. She doesnt complain about pain, but im kinda lost on what to do. Any ideas?
A friend of mine just had a baby. Went to get 2 month shots. Within a few hours was gasping for air and had a fever of 104. Imagine if they didnt have a hospital close by. I recommend not giving injections until your baby can walk and talk 😔
