hi just wondering you mentioned that the PE foam can make the sound of the board louder (which I agree) however my previous experience of PE foam on the Neo80 is that not only it made it louder, it also made the keyboard sound like that marbley sound that the jelly epoch had. Do you feel that this is the case for the Envoy? Because right now, I am completing to buy the foam kit. I have purchased a local set of Mode Envoy with CF plate and using mode obscura switches it.
the PE foam for envoy doesnt make it sound that marbley imo, it does make it louder and a tad bit marbley. envoy is overall a very high pitch/clacky board so it wont be changed very much even if u add the PE foam. please refer back to video again to compare! hope this helps.
How are they after all this time? Have the symbols rubbed off and the shine reappeared?I really want to get my first translucent keycaps(pbtfans neon r2)and I'm afraid that after a month they will go bad:(
Sold this off, but i've been using the pbtfans vior for a while and so far no shine yet. It will not rub off because it's double shot, but all keycaps will eventually shine. You should definitely go for the neon r2 since I was really considering that too and I love these semitranslucent keycaps! Hope this helps :)
im nearly a year late, but ive been dealing w a pingy envoy (too lazy to try to fix it + stopped caring) for a year and im wondering what exactly causes it. i know my switches, durock sunflowers, are supposed to have leaf spring ping, but even when i lube them or even swap different switches in, it still has a ton of ping. im on an alu plate with no foams, so i assumed its just that without any foam at all, the alu plate is super pingy, but i couldnt hear it at all in your tests. have you ever had ping w the envoy?
Could be ur overall build. definitely try some foam if u want to try and reduce the pinging. I did hear some people saying it's still pinging regardless if u add foam or not. Adding weight (like copper material) can also reduce some of the pinging/resonance overall
Did you push the upper o-ring through so that it sits betweenn the plate and pcb? Also, did you put an o-ring on every standoff? I'm gonna try only using four screws with o-rings, then comparing it to all. Thanks for the clip!
That's just a placeholder for the website, please look further down into the notion page as it goes into detail for price breakdown! Goal is about $300USD for 100MOQ :))
Thank you! This feels more consistent than the neo 65 with the o-ring mount imo! Feels great to type on. I personally haven't tried the unikorn very much other than in meets so I can't say much for that comparison!
very interesting board. will follow the gb as I really would like a pc version will it have compatibility with unikorn or neko boards and plates? the gummy oring stand offs look to be in a similar location as the unikorn. not sure if you can say $300 is a budget board when a neko is 130. but i guess its comparable to the jixte60. is the pricing US or CAD? If its as good my ALAS60 it would definitely be worth it.
Hey, thanks for your interest! To answer a few questions: - Moonlight uses identical stand-off locations to korn, however keep in mind that it might not have the same JST position under the PCB compared to various other PCBs. If your korn PCB has the connector under the 2 key like CannonKeys' bakeneko PCB, it will fit just fine. Or if your korn PCB has the same Molex Pico-EZMate as Moonlight's PCB, it will work regardless of connector location (Pico-EZMate connector is pretty much shorter than switch pins!). Initially Moonlight had different stand-off positions for typing consistency reasons but everything was modified to better support aftermarket parts - Budget is a relative term. In this sense, it simply refers to the lowest cost possible while retaining high-end design principles. You cannot do a big slab of brass like this at neko price point unfortunately. The board weighs more than a fully built QK60 with keycaps and everything... while unbuilt. More specific cost and price breakdowns are included in the notion, which you should definitely check out!
A reply from the man himself! Hope Malvix's comment answered your questions! And yes, the big slab of brass really adds to the weight. This board is deceivingly heavy!
@@MalvixStudio thank you for the clarification. yes if it has a big slab of brass, the price makes sense. My alas60 also has a extremely heavy brass weight and the price was $430 USD so $299 for the moonlight is a bargain. I am a huge 60% gummy oring fan so i tend to buy up almost anything interesting. Its a huge plus that its compatible with unikorn R1 pcb but I just want to mainly reuse my unikorn half plates on it. Definitely will get PC version after reading the notion and seeing the proto on discord. can't wait!

@@creationfied In terms of leaves, no they aren't. Mine still have obvious leaf tick. Those and Emogogo creams made me swear off jwk fully for now. It sucks because V1s are the deepest switches I personally have ever tried.
@@198Immortal The sad thing is they are pretty good besides the leaves. Some people have been getting lucky batches but I was not one of those people. They could also use a spring swap, the stock spring feels pretty sluggish.
I wish these were still around. At least bsun raws and invokeys purple rice have the same materials Edit: Where did you force break the sonnet? I couldn't find anywhere that it would be very helpful besides under the weight (I have an alu weight)
@@espurr117 That's v2. I don't like the sound of v2 as much as v1. Totally different materials too. Edit: I guess they have hand lubed ones in stock? I have no idea what the difference would be
I just took this picture for you. I just play around with it and hope for the best, but i found this helpful in reducing resonance in the sonnet imgur.com/a/NyjJnFd

I heard if u use HMX sunset gleams on a carbon fiber plate, the clack can open a warp hole within the space time continuum and let you glimpse into the future to see more upcoming HMX switches.
I’ve been trying a ton of hmx switches lately on the neo65. I went blue topaz ➡️ cloud ➡️ cheese ➡️ sunset gleams ➡️ to xinhai. My favorite so far is neo65, gasket mount, alu plate with only plate foam, xinhais’s and a milky yellow pro on the spacebar (because xinhai spacebar just makes the alphas seem too loud by comparison)
That's awesome! I also have a sound test of the xinhais on my neo65 and they're actually really nice on it. Loved the xinhais in the neo way more than the envoy!
Try Geonworks x HMX Raptor MX Extreme. Those are clackier and louder. but your setup is a bit clicky. I've built HMX switches on the Mode Envoy with Brass plates and CF plates and It clacks. Not sure why your Xinhais are clicking. strange.
not happening. I had hopes for the Geon X HMX Raptor Extreme because the GEON x BSUN Raptors was thocky but nope. True to HMX, they are CLACKY and LOUD! Even the new HMX YG Macchiatos that I just got in clacks. A bit deeper but still clacks. Been on this journey to find a thocky HMX for a while now lol
@@nakokoko13 I've tried the EVA. They are deeper and a bit quieter but still a clacky switch. Pretty similar to my HMK YG Macchiato's. Not really thocky but a good effort. But honestly, HMK is not a real manufacturer, they are a middle man for KTT so they are limited to KTT's molds.
The keycaps play a huge role, don't forget that! :D I have these harder plastic XDA-profile caps on my HMX Swifts and they have a much more prominent and higher pitched sound than for example a doubleshot PBT MOA-profile or even an ABS CSA-profile.
This is indeed, "ticky". I run my config with a carbon fiber plate and plate foam to taper it a bit. But yea, the kind of sound your board is producing here with the xinhai sounds very clicky?
@@198Immortal check out my typing test. It doesnt sound clicky imo. Maybe its the pom plate with zero foam? maybe tightened down the retaining screws too hard? not sure. Envoy can be a tricky board to get sounding great.
@@0xBULLgogi i find the PC case to be less harsh and rounder in sound overall, which could have helped reduce that ticking sound compared to my alu envoy. in addition, you are also using foam which could definitely have helped and tamed it down a bit. i dont usually tighten the screws down hard at all, i always lightly tighten until resistance then turn it back half a turn to make sure it is not pressing on the pcb. i found my alu envoy to be the sharpest sounding board i have ever owned atm, which can be a good and bad thing i guess haha.
I have put together some builds that I also consider "too clacky" which at first didn't think was possible when chasing the clack. Sometimes a bit of case foam might tame it or a change in plate material if I wanted to keep the same switches in, else it's moving on to a different switch entirely. Cheers, Durian!
Oh yeah, I've also tried it with case foam and it really helped a lot in regards to reducing the sound of ticking and increasing the mid tones. However, it also made it sound too similar to the other builds I've tried with case foam for the envoy... :(
