For the PDF - can you add links so every page number jumps back to the Table of Contents. That will reduce wandering and scrolling a LOT! This should be standard but most folks don't know the trick yet.
Ive never understood why people are so against fists being included in dual wielding.. You ever see a martial artist or someone boxing with just one hand when they had two available? Ever seen anyone fight with a weapon in one hand and the other free, NOT use that free hand during the fight unless they were fencing?
The damage soaking mechanism feels very unrealistic. You can only benefit from wearing armour IF you use the Dodge/Block reaction? Isn't armour supposed to give you passive protection?
How long will the backerkit stay open? I'm weighing my options but do see that the all in is 99$ on sale and was curious how long that will remain an option? Monster Design question, I see that a lot more system neutral monster is on the rise and notice some of these will just simply use challenge ratings, usually 1-4. From a 5e/d20/Nimble perspective, what monster level or HD would be the ranges here?
Hey Joshua, the backerkit preorder discounts will be open for a bit longer. The closer we get to finishing the books the discount will go down. You should be able to generate monsters that can challenge a party from level 1 all the way to level 20 with Nimble.
This video is such a great peek behind the curtains for budding designers. AND you did some great work breaking down your methods for examining the different variables to come up with a great Monster table. I'm vindicated, justified, and impressed all at once :D Like I said, I've loved these design videos so much. Thanks, Evan.
Monster Armor While most monsters are unarmored, some creatures are tougher to take down: Medium Armor “Just the dice.” Monsters with Medium Armor (M) ignore all damage modifiers from stats and other effects, taking damage from the sum of the dice only. Heavy Armor “Half the dice.” Monsters with Heavy Armor (H) ignore damage modifiers and take half damage from dice (rounding up). How to deal with armor? Heroes’ critical hits, save spells, and damage type vulnerabilities ignore monster armor altogether.
wow what a cool book I never knew existed! This looks very good, I only have one thing to criticise: playing this with a combat oriented system like D&D is kinda atrocious to me. This probably works really well with Blades in the Dark or what I'll probably do: adapt this to a Legend of the Five Rings 1~3 shot sessions.
haha valid! to be honest, the D&D (and zwei) mechanics only really come into play when combat happens organically between players - there are very few combat encounters baked into the adventure. Most of the module is just free form talking and the other unique mechanics (like the story tokens and night phases). We reduced the PC character sheets to be much smaller as well, because a lot of the mechanics bogged things way down in PvP. We definitely considered creating our own system... but also had to consider how it would sell to a larger audience :p We also really wanted as many people playing it as possible!
@@rudybasso For sure. Specially printing a deluxe product such as this. I feel like publishers who venture costs for a product of these size indeed have that interesting decision to make. To which I'll also say: valid! haha Print on Demand products might get away with less popular game systems, but even so, most of them might just break even. I can adapt with ease though, I'll definitly be seeking out this adventure in a near future.
we ran a quick try conversion battle with 10th level 5e characters, using action 'points' etc. Sadly most of the crew didn't want to continue with the mechanics. One thing we noticed was just how effective shield damage reduction was. Hobgoblins were peppering the paladin with a 2-H greataxe, no shield, and she was whittled down massively over the fight, no single attack against her worth Defending against and losing that action. we also learnt we should bags the next turn so that the monsters didn't continue to interrupt and we could team tactics it.
How does the dazed condition interact with legendary creatures in comparison to incapacitatet/stunned etc. What would be the difference between the legendary creature getting dazed for 1 round and stunned for 1 round. Would he loose just 1 turn between two of the heroes in both cases?🤔
my 2 cents, but "instance" tends to be used when something is separate from the group or other examples, so almost in an exclusive way. This may not jive with the way that you can have a cumulative effect with adv/disadv. Stack implies a group, instance implies something singular, even if the technical definition still works and all that. Can't think of a better word at the moment, and I think this would be fine, but I think "stack" is superior for this purpose (though I'm a gamer and perhaps more used to it being used that way)
I like the idea of the Oathsworn taking hits and still going, like "I will keep taking the hits to protect my friends" and the enemies being intimidated, and the oathbreaker similarly taking hits and still walking forward all wounded and scarred, but it's more perverse like "Hit me, just HIT ME!" functionally the same but way different vibes
Interesting system and good for a one-shot, but I'm instantly turned off by the counterintuitive high is bad low is good psychology of roll under systems. Attacks that always hit, would make weapon skills meaningless. The reason you miss a lot in D&D is because the d20 is too dynamic. That's why any d20 system is called swingy. Dave Arneson is the one who introduced the d20 into D&D from d20s he purchased back in the 60's from a game store in London's West End. Dave was already using the d20 in Blackmoor. Dave also brought in Armor Class and Hit Points to D&D from Civil War Ironclads.
I like the speed differences you have. But halflings are slow too. They literally had to be carried to keep up in LOTR. Dwarves are at least as quick as halflings.
Beastmaster - for me, going in the Dying condition due to my companion taking a hit feels bad, I would offer an alternative: If your companion receives damage that would drop you to 0 hp, instead you are at 1hp, you take a wound, and your companion licks their wounds for a while and is out for the remainder of the encounter (or X rounds cooldown) - this way if you're going to be dying, it's because you yourself took the hit. ( I understand that the shared pool is a choice and thematic, but this is something I as a player would welcome as an option)
Love this one. Is defo the best for one-shots or short campaigns. And it always catches the players by surprise how secretly violent and ruthless is this cute game.
Regarding the Oathbreaker I would advice to check out a class in the book Valda's Spire of Secrets by Mage Hand Press called the Martyr... it has good ideas
@@nimbleCoI feel like Whitehack is the only system with roll under that makes it logical because it's a roll between system (armor / save is low value and stat is high value) and crits happen on equaling stat so it's a roll under but roll high if that makes sense
I see where Evan took a lot of inspiration for Nimble from. This video was great, I heard about Mausritter a lot, but never gave it a chance. It actually sounds good.
