@@jorgecortes-fc4cf it's in tune, like any saxophone you have to know how to play in tune ;-) It's not properly set up from the fabric/eBay seller's; you have to adjust a lot of leaking pads. It's a yanagisawa copy, so it has a small bore and the keywork are suitable for people with small hands. So it's not a horn for us Keilwerth players
Ive had mine a year. Its been nice but the longer I have it the worse out of tune it gets. I can tune the lower, middle, or upper octave but not any two together. Middle G can be perfectly in tune but everything up to C# gets several cents flatter than the last then when i hit D it goes so sharp compared to the C that its almost like a step and a half. I;ve messed with it all I can but it keeps getting worse over time. Thought I had struck gold. Guess I'll buy a better one next time.
Hi Egil, I have the same baritone saxophone purchased a couple of months ago. I saw below that you made some changes to yours. Are there specific changes you recommend for this horn that are pretty much a necessity? This is my first saxophone and I'm a beginner, so I don't have a frame of reference as to how the horn could/should be improved.
First: Adjusting pads to remove leaks - this is the only change that is absolutely necessary here. Then I changed the mechanism that connects low A and Bb and H so that it does not bend the pad cups. I have also built out several flaps with sugru and epoxy - it was not necessary, but to adapt my fingers. I also made a stop for the low Bb flap and made a spacer between the long rods, this is also not necessary, but gives a solid feeling. Then I put a lining on the trap ring so that the sax tilts a little more to one side and gives a better angle for my right hand.
@@pedrodavidrodrigues3481 I mostly use the fat neck. It makes a huge difference; almost like having two horns. What ligature I use means nothing to the sound or how it feels to play. The only important thing is that it holds the reed firmly and that it is easy to operate. This is a standard rovner ligature.
Hi Mr. Egil. Here Fabian from Brazil. Maybe I´ll buy a Taishan Baritone Saxophone. This instrument is good? I´m not profissional musician. I´m trying to find a cheap instrument but here in Brazil me have a lot of taxes and the instruments are so expensive. You recomend this instrument ? Thanks for your information.
It is nice. But it was not set up when I got it, and I had to do a lot of work on it before it become playable. Half of the pads are adjusted (heated and adjusted). Two rods are shrunk to remove play. Palm d is raised. Low A, Bb and H pad/padcups are adjusted to open more. The rod between low A and Bb and betweene low Bb and H is removed and replaced with an arm that is not attached to the side of the padcup (I first made a temporary solution that does not look so good, but it works so well that I have kept it) . I also removed that low H lift G#, (to make the low H-key run easier). There was also a slight skein between the body and the bell that had to be adjusted (transport damage I think). I have also raised the right thumb support with sugru. And rounded the front f key with epoxy (it was a mother's of pearls button.)

The tuning is very nice, better than a lot other baritones you have to pay a lot more for. But when you got it you have to do the final set up; adjusting pads, leaks etc - I also did some modifications. If you can't do this yourself you need a tech that want to do it, - ask one befor you buy, not all want to work on chinese instruments.
@@ScriptureResearchCentre it's ok. Altissimo is very nice, the low end works but isn't great. Temperature changes: cold is no problem but it never gets warm in Norway ;-). Very fast playing: no, I don't like the selmerstyle keys.
Every now and again I run across a musician who reminds me of why I became a musician. You put a smile on my face. Thank you. You sound great, and you know what, those c- melody's can sound very lyrical. Man you, have great control, I like the bounciness !
I have had my Taishan bari for about a year and a half and am very pleased with it . It needed only a couple minor adjustments when I got it. The mouthpiece is like a student model,so to keep things on the cheap side I got a Rico metalite M9. This made a big improvement in the sound. One night when returning from a gig one of the wheels fell off the case so I got a nice Propac case from my wife for Christmas. Overall its a good deal for the money and performs well.
How's it holding up over time? I've heard from a few people that theirs started pooping out after just six months, but others say theirs has been serving them well for years. Apparently there's a certain seller on ebay that makes sure they only put out the good ones?

I noticed that it has been a while since this was uploaded. How is the quality of the saxophone now? How is the low A? And the lower octaves in general? It sounds a bit tough to get them out on the reviews I have watched.
Hi, Dannessa! The horn is getting better and better, it's not true that the metal on it is weaker than other saxophones ;-) The problem with the low tones is because I had not practiced much baritone before I got it. Low A works great and the entire saxophone is more in tune than any other baritones I have tried.
