They are reliable and an interesting fact about land rovers in whatever guise they appear is, more that 80% of all landrovers ever built are still on the road. So they can't be that unreliable
@BuckeyeMCS definitely not as common in the 4.0l as it was in the later 4.6l. Essentially it's the same block, made on the same tooling. Cracking of the block behind the sleeves is a common theme between all the RV8s.
@ernestsnow1625 Hanging out in my back yard. I'll finish it one day. I haven't touched it in probably 6 years. I need about $3,000 of disposable income to finish it. I do not have that. Too many other priorities I guess.
Thanks this was the problem I was having, I ran out of oil, filled it and got nothing. Mine sheared in half. Used an old drill bit at 0.095" cut to about 0.5" and all is good again
Thanks for doing this! I'm about to start my teardown and rebuild! Are you going to do the new casing sleeve that is notorious for leaking? I got one but am having trouble finding a place to machine the case.
@WilliamMunny-d8s 6'1". You can make the mounts as tall or short as you want. If I had it to do again, I wouldn't use this style seat. I'd find something with a back rest not as "deep" for lack of a better term. The height is fine, but I can not recline the seat at all and wasn't able to use the factory slides so the seat is non adjustable. But the price was right so that's why I used them.
Question. I bought the lucky 8 nosecone for my 2003 D2. If the spring and detent ball are not correctly installed could it make your Hi/low selctor pop out of gear?
That is pretty simple to diagnosis. Run the cap screw until it bottoms out gently, then back off two turns. See of that helps. Also check to make sure your selector cable is adjusted properly.
The selector cable is adjusted in the correct direction as far as it can go. Maybe dog collar didn't get liner up right? This all started when the CDL nosecone went on. Never had this problem before that. Thanks for your response.
I have a question about the hi/low selector shaft. Does the detent ball that holds the slider shaft in gear get held in by the detent is the shaft? In short is the hole that the detent ball and spring go into machined in a way that the ball can't drop into the transfer case? Or does the slider shaft the only thing holding it from falling in the transfer case?
Thanks man! I used most of the popular videos on RU-vid myself but none of them were "complete" in my opinion. Basically why I made this series! Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching
I never realized how BRAVE AND AWESOME you guys are until i watched your videos. I have a new found respect for all of you. Im from KNOXVILLE TENNESSEE..
Excellent job and thanks for posting. I’ve been looking for a solution to my saggy headliner issue and this seems to be the best. What bed liner product did you use?
On a discovery 1 v8 the bolts for plastic cover are the only thing hold the sensor. I used a 1/4 drive deep socket with a u joint and long extension. It was still pretty difficult.
Don’t have to it’s legendary symptom of these trucks. I’m going to change out both wheel speed sensors on my truck anyway a lot of the owners who own these trucks neglected them so it’s good to do some preventative maintenance.
@mcleodmarcel48 do you only have the three amigos? If you only have the TC, ABS, and HDC lights, it's more than likely not a wheel speed sensor. When you have a wheel speed sensor not reading, it kicks on the brake light, too. Check your wheel speed sensor connectors while you are at it. they get brittle and loose connection, throw voltage high or low codes. If you only have the three amigos, it's probably a shuttle valve switch issue. Bad ground, faulty shuttle valve switch, etc. There are 11 different reasons why the SLABS computer will throw warning lights with multiple causes to throw each code, so 40-50 different possibilities the lights are on.
I researched the same with having a shop install top hat liners 2yrs ago. I called The Shop in norcross ga, referred me to a machine shop in atlanta who can do it. I dont remember which one, but i wrote it down at my shop. I'll find it and let you know. I want to do the same one day. Love your channel
Thanks Brother! I think I found a shop in Enterprise, AL called Pilchard Automotive. I have an appointment to go talk them them to get a quote, but please shoot me the name of the shop in ATL as a back up plan!!!!
It is a little intimidating at first. However, once you get into it. It's not that bad. You just need to have a few things for the proper set up. Reassembly video is on the way!!!!
Another great video, I bought that disco from LR in Oahu 2004, second owner and only had 7k miles. Oil changed every 3k miles with castrol 5w50. Overheated and blew head gasket about 6 years & 10k ago, did a quick engine pull, total inspection teardown and had heads milled. Plan was to do what jack is doing around this same time frame but I shifted project directions.
Bro, it would be awesome if someone made a step-by-step video on how to rebuild your Rover V8 I mean, it ain’t nothing but an old Buick engines so it can’t be that hard I hope
